Give Me Your Eyes
Brandon Heath Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Looked down from a broken sky
Traced out by the city of lights
My world from a mile high
Best seat in the house tonight
Touch down on the cold black-top
Hold on for the sudden stop
Breathe in the familiar shock of confusion and chaos
All those people going somewhere, why have I never cared

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see,
Everything that I keep missing,
Give your love for humanity.
Give me your arms for the broken-hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach.
Give me Your heart for the ones forgotten.
Give me Your eyes so I can see.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Step out on the busy street.
See a girl and our eyes meet.
Does her best to smile at me.
To hide what's underneath.
There's a man just to her right
Black suit and a bright red tie.
Too ashamed to tell his wife he's out of work, he's buyin time.
All those people going somewhere, why have I never cared.

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see,
Everything that I keep missing,
Give your love for humanity.
Give me your arms for the broken-hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach.
Give me Your heart for the ones forgotten.
Give me Your eyes so I can see.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

I've been there a million times
A couple million lives
Just moving past me by, I swear I never thought that I was wrong
But I wanna second glance so give me a second chance
To see the way you've seen the people all along

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken-hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me Your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me Your eyes so I can see

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
That I keep missing
Give me your arms for the broken-hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach.
Give me Your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me Your eyes so I can see.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Brandon Heath's song "Give Me Your Eyes" express a desire for a different perspective on the world. Starting with an aerial view of the city, the singer observes people going about their lives with a new sense of curiosity and concern. The second verse brings the perspective down to street level, where the singer sees past the surface of a girl's smile to the pain hidden beneath and witnesses a man's struggle to hide his unemployment. The chorus repeats the request to "give me your eyes," which serves as both a plea and a prayer for a deeper understanding of the people around us.

The song's message is a call for empathy and compassion, encouraging listeners to look beyond themselves and their own concerns to the lives of others. The repetition of the chorus reinforces the idea that this change in perspective is not a one-time event but an ongoing process that requires conscious effort. The hopeful and upbeat melody of the song adds to its inspiring message.

It’s been years since I’ve heard this song and welp....... it was a major feeling through the Holy Spirit, so much that without noticing I sang word for word the lyrics of the song. It felt like a blast from the last of the childhood I’m leaving. IT WAS AWESOME!!! And as I have my guitar on my hands and a broken heart from a breakup I experienced about 2 months ago I hope to get back up on my feet 100% and this song reminds me that there are people who care and I for some reason want my EX to know that. It’s probably just my weird naive 15 year old brain that’s making up more crazy plans but I plan to make a cover of Brandon Heaths- “I’m not who I was” song and sending it to her and saying that no matter what happens there are good people in the hand of God and if it’s not meant to be me who is there for her it’s gonna be someone good :)

I’m glad I found this song🙃
Maybe I’ll make a cover of it also

Will you step outside of yourself and look to make life better?

Give me Your eyes for just one second
Give me Your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me Your love for humanity
Give me Your arms for the broken-hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me Your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me Your eyes so I can see

My son is 13 and deaf since birth. Although, he cannot hear your music with his ears, he hears it with the way your lyrics speak to him. I learned to sign this song to my son. We play it often. My son's name is Brandon...

Try aftershocks headphones..get it through amazon..unlike other headphones theses works through the jawbone and doesn't go into your ear. I heard stories where people who couldn't hear, use it and they could hear music. It's worth a shot
