Hello?
Rodney?!
Huh? This Fred
What the deal B-Rocker?
Nothing I miss you man
Yeah
I ain't seen you in a while what's going on?
I hear you throwing that Ray J. joint in the background
Yeah me and Joi about to go meet him up at the Beverly Center
Right
Oh yeah where Rodney at?
Right here. Hold on for a second
(Ray J, you can hear Fred calling Rodney)
Hello?
Rodney hehe
Brandy yeah
What are you doing?
Working on another joint
Really? For who?
You
See I'm about to start beefing with you
Brandy, another hot joint
For real?
Wanna hear it?
Yeah
The lyrics to Brandy's song In the Car Interlude are a phone conversation between Brandy and Rodney Jerkins discussing their work on a new joint. It starts with a phone call from Fred, who Brandy mistakes for Rodney at first, where he checks in with her and asks about her brother Ray J's project. Then, Rodney comes on the line and they talk about their collaboration on a new song. Rodney reveals that he is working on a new joint for Brandy, which excites her. She playfully threatens to start beef with him if he continues to create hot tracks for her.
This short interlude gives listeners a rare glimpse into the behind-the-scenes work of creating music. It shows the camaraderie and support that exists between collaborators and how excited they can get about the prospect of creating yet another hit song. The playful banter between Brandy and Rodney shows a close bond between them, which is likely what has made their collaborations so successful.
