Oh yeah
So if the role (so if the role)
Don't fit me
Got to be movin' on
I could be a typical kinda girl, wastin' my time
See, I would rather be occupied
Always tryna keep my mind
Pointed to a higher plane, oh
I can have anything I want
Anything I can dream of
I've been told from the day I was born, yeah, oh yeah
So I make sure every day
That I don't let nothin' hold me back
Got to be on track, I gotta move
So if the role
Don't fit me (don't fit me)
Got to be (got to be)
Movin' on (movin' on, yeah)
'Cause if it don't ('cause if it don't)
Work for me (don't work for me)
Guess I'll be (guess I'll be)
Movin' on
Hey (and on)
I could take liberties
But that would cause me a change
And that ain't my thing
'Cause I don't wanna stand with the crowd
Only true to myself
Don't have to follow no one else, yeah
Not tryin' to be alone
But if I catch you doin' wrong
Got no problem leavin' the room, yes, oh
Don't feel no sympathy (sympathy)
At least not for me (for me)
'Cause I know just what I'm gonna do, I gotta move
So if the role
Don't fit me (mm-yeah)
Got to be (whoa-yeah)
Movin' on (hey)
'Cause if it don't (oh yeah)
Work for me (work for me)
Guess I'll be
Movin' on (movin' on, yeah)
So if the role (hey-yeah)
Don't fit me (oh yeah)
Got to be (yeah-oh yeah)
Movin' on (movin' on, yeah)
'Cause if it don't (movin' on, movin' on, movin' on)
Work for me
Guess I'll be (hey yeah)
Movin' on (I gotta move on)
Keep movin' (oh yeah)
Keep movin' (keep movin')
Keep movin' on and on (oh)
Keep movin' (I gotta move, yeah)
Keep movin' (I've gotta move)
Keep movin' on and on (oh)
So if the role (so if the role)
Don't fit me (don't fit me)
Got to be (got to be)
Movin' on (on and on, hey yeah)
'Cause if it don't
Work for me (yeah yeah yeah)
Guess I'll be (guess I'll be)
Movin' on
(On and on, and on) (I gotta move on)
On and on
On and on
The lyrics in Brandy's song "Movin' On" are about the singer's determination and drive to move forward in life. She knows that if a certain role or path does not fit her, she has to keep moving on and find something that does. Brandy sings about not wanting to waste her time and always trying to keep her mind pointed towards a higher place. She acknowledges that she can have anything she wants, as she was told the day she was born, but in order to achieve her goals, she has to make sure that nothing holds her back and she remains on track.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the importance of not being afraid to change course if something is not working out. Brandy sings "So if the role don't fit me got to be moving on; Cause if it don't work for me, guess I'll be movin' on." She is not afraid of taking liberties, but only if they align with her values and morals. She refuses to stand with the crowd and is true to herself, not following the footsteps of anyone else. If something does not sit right with her or if she is doing something wrong, she has no problem leaving the room and moving on.
Overall, "Movin' On" is an empowering song that encourages listeners to stay true to themselves and keep moving forward even when faced with challenges or obstacles. It is a powerful reminder that we are in control of our own lives and have the ability to make choices that will steer us towards our desired destinations.
