Fool on the Hill
Brasil '66 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Day after day alone on the hill,
The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still,
But nobody wants to know him,
They can see that he's just a fool,
And he never gives an answer,
But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning around.

Well on his way his head in a cloud,
The man of a thousand voices talking percetly loud
But nobody ever hears him,
Or the sound he appears to make,
And he never seems to notice,
But the fool on the hill,
Nobody seems to like him
They can tell what he wants to do.

And he never shows his feelings,
But the fool on the hill

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Fool on the Hill by Brasil '66 describe a man who is isolated from others and is viewed as a fool. The man sits alone on a hill with a foolish grin, but nobody wants to know him. He never speaks and is seen as a fool. Despite this, the fool on the hill sees the world around him, as the sun goes down and the world spins. The second verse continues the description of the man, who now has his head in the clouds and is speaking loudly, but nobody seems to hear him, or even understand what he wants to do. Though he never shows his feelings, his actions give away his emotions, which are not understood by others.

Agree with everyone else that this is the best version of Fool On The Hill. I heard this song and then went out and brought the album. Excellent and moody in a great Latin way.

I happen to agree. Don't get me wrong they were amazing song writers such in case this song is one of many great songs originally by them. However, I always thought The Beatles versions of songs were a "bit dry"

William Roth

huh?

Jock Narn

What an original arrangement ... different but easily as iconic as the Beatles original.
