So Many Stars
Brasil '66 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The dark is filled with dreams
So many dreams, which one is mine?
One must be right for me

Which dream of all the dreams
When there's a dream for every star
And there are oh so many stars, so many stars
The wind is filled with songs
So many songs, which one is mine?
One must be right for me

Which song of all the songs
When there's a song for every star
And there are oh so many stars, so many stars

Along the countless days, the endless nights
That I have searched so many eyes
So many hearts, so many smiles

Which one to choose, which way to go?
How can I tell, how will I know out of
Oh, so many stars, so many stars?

Along the countless days, the endless nights
That I have searched so many eyes
So many hearts, so many smiles

Which one to choose, which way to go?
How can I tell, how will I know out of

Oh, so many stars, so many stars?
So many stars, so many stars, so many stars

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in Brasil '66's song "So Many Stars" focus on the themes of choice, uncertainty and the search for fulfillment. The singer is acknowledging the vast array of options available in life and expressing a sense of feeling overwhelmed by the choices. The first verse speaks of the abundance of dreams and how difficult it is to discern which one is meant for the individual. The second verse uses the same metaphor of abundance, but this time in the context of songs. Both verses use star imagery to signify the variety and infinite possibilities.

The song continues to explore the idea of searching for what is best for oneself. The singer talks about the countless days and endless nights spent searching for the right thing, be it right path, the right person or the right purpose. The lyrics are introspective and full of a sense of longing, which is enhanced by the gentle, calming melody of the song. The bridge of the song offers no answers but instead reiterates the problem of choice and the difficulty in making decisions - how can one tell which path to follow, which dream or song to pursue?

Overall, the song's message is universal and speaks to anyone who has ever felt lost or uncertain in life. Brasil '66's soothing bossa nova sound adds to the melancholic but ultimately reassuring tone of the song.

I'm so grateful I discovered this song a few years ago. Such a beautiful, dreamy, yet harmonically sophisticated piece. I would hope that everyone got to hear it at least once. The instrumentation and orchestration are impeccable. All this, coupled with the gentle bossa nova sway, fits perfectly with the thoughtful message and imagery, leaving the listener with a sense of comforting encouragement. I NEVER tire of listening to this gem. Such a departure from most of the music being produced nowadays. Reminds me of my visits to Rio de Janeiro, as well.
