Zane and Hamish formed Breaks Co-Op in Auckland, releasing the electronic album Roofers in 1997 before they both left New Zealand to travel and pursue other interests. They both ended up in the UK where Zane has become a hugely successful Radio DJ and TV Presenter.
After several years hiatus, Zane and Hamish eventually started working on new material in 2004, recruiting Andy Lovegrove from artist/producers The Away Team after hearing a demo of him sing and deciding his was the voice born to sing their music.
Released last year in New Zealand, The Sound Inside has been a double-platinum selling hit, with lead single The Otherside the No.1 airplay hit of 2005 and winner of Song Of The Year at the NZ Music Awards.
The Co-op has also been touring for much of the last six months and has relocated to the UK where their album has been released by Parlophone. The live band has been going from strength to strength and gathering fans wherever it goes.
The live lineup is Andy Lovegrove on lead vocals and guitar, Rodney Fisher on vocals, lead guitar, mandolin and percussion, Rio Hemopo on bass and vocals, Tom Atkinson on drums and Hamish Clark on turntables, samples and vocals.
The Other Side
Breaks Co-op Lyrics

Going through your life thinking you must be the only one
But I’ve seen so many like you
Take my word for it, they feel the same, they feel the same
[Chorus]
So take my hand and I’ll lead you back on to the other side
Get yourself into a better place and lift your life
Make it easier on yourself and don’t ask why
Well, there have been so many changes
Flowing through your life but you learn to look the other way
But I know that there’s a better way
Take my word for it you’ll feel the same, you’ll feel the same
[Chorus]
So take my hand and I’ll lead you back on to the other side
Get yourself into a better place and lift your life
Hold your head up high and don’t rely on anyone else
Make it easier on yourself and don’t ask why
The earth puts forth a new life again
Green grasses grow and flowers lift their heads
And over all the plain wonder speads of life (of life)
(So) hold your head up high, on the other side
(So) hold your head up high, on the other side
(So) hold your head up high, on the other side
The song "The Other Side" by Breaks Co-op talks about the struggles of pretending to be something you're not and feeling alone in that struggle. The lyrics describe a person who was born a pretender, constantly thinking they are the only one like them, but the singer assures them that there are others like them out there. The chorus then urges the person to take the singer's hand and let them lead them back to the other side, to a better place in their life. The singer advises to hold one's head up high and not rely on anyone else to make life easier, emphasizing the importance of self-reliance.
The second verse talks about change and how the person has learned to look the other way, but the singer believes that there's a better way. The bridge then talks about the beauty of nature and how life continues to renew itself, urging the person to hold their head up high on the other side. Overall, the song is about the struggle to be true to oneself and finding the courage to make positive changes in life.

This is one of the most addictive songs I've heard in a long while. It's a shame that bands like this don't get more radio play in the states, especially with all the substandard crap we hear in the pop music scene.

@@razornz007Your country used to be a beautiful place before it became one of the most tyrannical countries post C-19. Maybe you are to close and isolated to see it. I'm glad I still have the ability to defend what needs to be defended despite the U.S. having the most corrupt govt in my life time.
