1. Funk and soul American band from Philadelphia, formed in 1971. The band consisted of Gene Robinson, James Gee Jones, Linc 'Love' Gilmore, Steve Green, Vince Garnell, Greg Scott, John 'Dutch' Braddock, and Kae Williams, Jr. The band released two albums: Breakwater in 1978, and Splashdown in 1980. The latter features the song Release the Beast, which was sampled in 2004 by Daft Punk for their song "Robot Rock".
2. Breakwater was an emo/hardcore band from Victoria, Canada. They combined that post-rock sound with soft-loud dynamics, the sound that bands like envy are getting famous for nowadays.
The original line-up featured Dave Truscott (who also played in letters to the lord himself and Honeysuckle Serontina), Jode Shortreed (Republic Of Freedom Fighters, letters to the lord himself, Honeysuckle Serontina), Steve Simard (Republic Of Freedom Fighters) and Dave Wenger (Daddy's Hands, Ache Hour Credo, M-Blanket. This line-up released a Five-Song cassette in 1994. Two of these songs, Five and Seven, were re-released as Self-Titled 7" on Static (#001) in 1995.
Dave was replaced by Carey Mercer (republic of freedom fighters, frog eyes, swan lake) in 1995. This line-up released a song, Eleven, on a split 7" with Closure on Mountain Records and another one, Twelve, on Compilation 12" entitled I Can't Live Without It. Both records were released on Mountain Records from NY in 1996, and their catalog numbers are MTN #007 and MTN #009 respectively. The band broke up shortly after.
Another song from the cassette, One, was posthumously released on a compilation CD entitled A Benefit Compilation Brought To You By Mayfly in 1997.
Say You Love Me Girl

I'll relive it... without pain... mmm...
Backstreet lover on the side of the road
I got a bomb in my temple that is gonna explode
I got a sixteen gauge buried under my clothes, I play...
Once upon a time I could control myself
Ooh, once upon a time I could lose myself, yeah...
Oh, try and mimic what's insane... ooh, yeah...
Oh, Indian summer and I hate the heat
I got a backstreet lover on the passenger seat
I got my hand in my pocket, so determined, discreet... I pray...
Once upon a time I could control myself
Ooh, once upon a time I could lose myself, yeah, yeah...
You think I got my eyes closed
But I'm lookin' at you the whole fuckin' time...
Ooh, once upon a time I could control myself, yeah...
Once upon a time I could lose myself, yeah, yeah, yeah...
Once, upon a time I could love myself, yeah...
Once upon a time I could love you, yeah, yeah, yeah...
Once Yeah... once, once... yeah, yeah...
Yeah... yeah, yeah... yeah, yeah... oww...
The lyrics to Breakwater’s song “Say You Love Me Girl” describe a tumultuous relationship in which the singer struggles to maintain control over himself and his emotions. He admits that he relives the pain of the relationship, but also remembers a time when he was able to control himself and lose himself at the same time. The singer then describes a situation in which he has a backstreet lover and a buried weapon that is about to explode. He continues to struggle with his emotions and questions where he stands in this relationship.
The song is raw and honest, with a sense of desperation and confusion. The singer seems lost in his own emotions and struggles to find a way to control them. The reference to an Indian summer adds to the feeling of heat and intensity, further emphasizing the singer’s struggle to keep his emotions in check.
Overall, “Say You Love Me Girl” is a powerful and emotional song that captures the intense feelings of a troubled relationship. It portrays the struggle of trying to control one’s own emotions and the pain that can come with failing to do so.

Nothing like that Philly flair....All I can say is this song is nostalgic and oh so timeless. I left Philly in '89, but its nothing like crossing that state line and tuning into DAS and hearing a jam like this. Incredible!!!
