Holloway did not fit the Motown mold well. She lived in Los Angeles, not Detroit. She also had a grittier edge than the typical polished Motown performer, and wrote songs as well as sang them, which was unprecedented for a female Motown artist. Brenda Hollowy inspired many pop artists, including The Beatles who asked her to perform as the opening act on their 1965 tour of the U.S. She was the only female to open for them.

I treated you bad
And wrong my dear
And girl since
Since you been away
Dontcha know
I sit around
With my head hangin' down
And I wonder
Who's lovin you
I, I, I, I should have never ever
Ever made you cry
And girl since
Since you been gone
Dontcha know
I sit around
With my head hangin' down
And I wonder
Who's lovin' you
Life without love
Is oh so lonely
I don't think
I don't think
I'm gonna make it
All my life
All my life, yeah
Belongs to you only
Come on and take it girl
Come on and take it!
Because
All I can do
All I can do
Since you been gone is cry
And you, oooh
Dontcha know I
Sit around
With my head hangin' down
And I wonder
Who's lovin' you
(Who's lovin you)
Who's lovin you
The lyrics of Brenda Holloway's song "Who's Lovin' You" express deep regret and longing for a lost love. The song opens with the singer lamenting the way she treated her lover badly when they were together, leading to their separation. She expresses remorse for making her lover cry and for not appreciating them enough. The chorus of the song then expresses the singer's current state of loneliness and sorrow, wondering who could possibly now be loving the partner she lost. She ends the song by pleading for her lost love to come back into her life, offering them all her love and devotion.
The sadness and vulnerability expressed in the lyrics of "Who's Lovin' You" are accentuated by Holloway's soulful delivery. The song has become a classic of the Motown era and has been covered by many artists, including The Jackson 5, who had a hit with their version. At its core, the song is a simple expression of the pain of lost love, and its emotional impact is felt by anyone who has experienced heartbreak.

Talk about someone being "robbed", one of the most under rated singers from Motown..for me, she was always a "diamond in the rough" for Motown..love her music.

One of Motown‘s best and most underrated female singers. Wonderful voice.💛
@edwinjones1000
The word was that she wouldn't give Berry Gordy sex, so she was sent back to Cali and her songs were not promoted. I am 71 years old. Music was a small industry. Everybody knew what was going on behind the scenes.
@devinrivers5808
@@edwinjones1000Yeah, I heard about that too..this lady has self respect
@italoman9
Damn, her voice is like getting the energy of laying in the sun on a warm, summery day -- full of mellowness and electricity. What a talented artist.
