Brenda Holloway Lyrics

Embrace me, my sweet embraceable you!
Embrace me, you irreplaceable you!

Just one look at you
My heart grew tipsy in me,
You and you alone
Bring out the gypsy in me!

I love all, the many charms about you!
Above all, I want my arms about you!

Don't be a naughty baby,
Come to papa, come to papa, do!
My sweet embraceable you!

[Verse 1]
I lost at love before
Gave up and closed the door
But you said try just once more

I chose you for the one
Now I'm having so much fun
You treated me so kind
I'm about to lose my mind

You made me so very happy
I'm so glad you came into my life

[Verse 2]
The others were untrue
But when it came to you
I'd spend my whole life with you

'Cause you came and took control
You touched my very soul
You always showed me that
Loving you is where it's at

You made me so very happy
I'm so glad you came into my life
You made me so very happy
I'm so glad you came into my life

I love you so much it seems
That you're even in my dreams
I can hear you calling me

I'm so in love with you
All I ever want to do
Is just thank you, baby
Thank you, thank you, baby

You made me so very happy
I'm so glad you came into my life
You made me so very happy
I'm so glad you came into my life

Thank you, baby
You made me so very happy
I'm so glad you came into my life

One more time now
You made me so very happy
I'm so glad you came into my life

They all have done excellently with the song; to each his/her own based on individual preference.

I admire Brenda Holloway's take, and adore Candi Staton's unique delivery.

Brenda needs much much more credit for creating this lyrical and melodic masterpiece.

Thanks to Blood Sweat and Tears for bringing it to global recognition.

Wise post.

It's nice to appreciate the original version. She had a beautiful voice, very soulful indeed. BS&T made a monster hit out of it which I love, but without the original it wouldn't exist.

yes - she's also co-writer

I grew up with Brenda, her sister Patrice and their brother Wade.  We went to the same elementary and junior high school.  They allowed me to come to their home to play their piano as I did not have one.  Her very first big hit was Every Little Bit Hurts and I would call the radio station in Los Angeles and beg them to play it.  A family friend knew of this so one day he took me to the most popular record store at that time to buy the 45 record and the 33 1/3 LPR with all the songs I love on it.  She and I remained in contact for many years and only lost contact when I moved to the south. I have every thing she's recorded that was released.  There are a few songs that Motown would not release.  Last time I saw here was in the Motown office in the Tower Records building on Vine street. I was there to deliver a tape of some of my music.  Sadly I did not make the cut.

thank u for that history...Brenda was a significant voice from my era, ""every little bit hurts ' was the heartbreak painful love song of my youth, but this cut right here was so-o-o smooth it became my favorite. u should make contact with Brenda again , our generation has begun its final journey , But we sure lit the sky!!!twe were the GREATEST ERA ! Both Black And White one time only together we raised holy hell !! the Sixties , the Seventies was on Blast(without todays disrespect) for REAL!!!!

"the most popular record store at that time" The one "twenty magic paces from Central Avenue," with Art Laboe in the window?

Her voice is flawless on this recording. Blood, Sweat and Tears do a great rendition, but this chick KNOWS the song because she wrote it. Her emotion and interpretation are make this a brilliant recording!

Oh my goodness - this is definitely the most soul-filled version of this song and touches all the right parts. Fantastic Brenda Holloway!
