In 2004, Dennen released his first self-titled album, Brett Dennen. His second album was So Much More, which includes the singles "Ain't No Reason", "She's Mine", and "Darlin' Do Not Fear". A few songs charted as iTunes top downloads in the days following the album's release in November 2006. [1] Dennen also contributed a cover of "Private Life" to the 2006 tribute album Drink To Bones That Turn To Dust: A Toast To Oingo Boingo.
Dennen's music has been featured in several television shows, including"Roadtrip Nation" on PBS, Grey's Anatomy, the House episode "Family", The Unit episode "Freefall", and the Scrubs episode "My No Good Reason". In addition to television series, Dennen's music has also been used in national advertising campaigns for companies such as Hilton Hotels.
He has toured extensively across the U.S. with his band (including drummer Randy Schwartz), supporting such musicians as John Mayer and guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela. As of fall 2007, he is currently touring with Guster and singer-songwriters Meiko and Joshua James.
Dennen has been a part of The Mosaic Project, San Francisco Bay Area based nonprofit, since its inception. The Mosaic Project works towards a peaceful future by uniting young children of diverse backgrounds, providing them with essential skills to thrive in an increasingly diverse society, and empowering them to strive for peace. As The Mosaic Project's Resident Rock Star, Dennen created an original musical curriculum for the program, which they released as an album called Children's Songs for Peace and a Better World, in 2003. It won a Children's Music Web 2004 Award and a Parent's Choice 2004 Approved Award.
In November, 2007, Dennen was named as one of Rolling Stone Magazine's "10 Artists To Watch."

Out Of My Head
Brett Dennen Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Get outta my head, get into my heart.
Get outta my head, outta my head, outta my now.
Get outta my head, get into my heart.
Without you I do believe I'm homeless and without,
And without you, it's true. I'm out of focus.
Got go now, I know now if I can can't live with you I will
Without me you'll be stuck in a pattern and without me, you'll see
It doesn't matter who you're made at
I've had that happen and I won't have that happen anymore.
Why don't it go boom boom boom
Give me love, give me love, give me love now.
Boom boom boom
Any you get it back and you get it back
Get outta my head, outta my head, outta my head, head now.
Get outta my head, outta my head, outta my no, get into my heart.
Get outta my head, outta my head, outta my head, head now.
Get outta of my head, outta my head, outta my no, get into my heart.
Get into my heart
Thought I'd changed inside,
So I went up into the mountains and climbed.
I got away from all the static and the sadness.
I won't be caught up in that anymore
Why don't it go, boom boom boom
Give me love, give me love, give me love now.
Boom boom boom.
And you get it back, and you get it.
Boom boom boom
Give me love, give me love, give me love now.
Boom boom boom
And you get it back, and you get it.
Get outta my head, outta my head, outta my head now.
Get outta my head, get into my heart.
Get outta my head, outta my head, outta my now.
Get outta my head, get into my heart.
Outta my head, outta my head
Out of my head, no
Get outta my head, outta my head, outta my head, head
Get outta of my head, no.
Get outta my head, no.
Get outta my head, outta my head, outta my head now.
Get outta my head, get into my heart.
Get outta my head, outta my head, outta my now.
Get outta my head, get into my heart.
The song "Out Of My Head" by Brett Dennen has a simple and repetitive message: to move from one's head to one's heart. The lyrics describe how the singer needs to get the object of his affection out of his head and into his heart to find comfort and love. The singer confesses that without this person, he feels lost and out of focus, unable to find his place in the world. He goes to the mountains to find clarity and escape from the static and sadness. The song turns optimistic as the singer asks for love, saying that if he gets it, he will receive it back. He repeats his plea to get out of his head and into his heart.
Overall, the song is about the struggle between the head and the heart, and the difficulty in finding a balance between the two. It explores the themes of love, loss, and finding oneself. The repetitive nature of the chorus reinforces the importance of this message.
