'Mess' by Brian Benham

Tell me something I will never forget
Tell me something that I won't let escape my head
Like when you loved me

Speak now of times incomplete
Of all that you have and all that you need
And I will not be afraid to fall

Fall into the brighter side
Of all of this oh what a mess
But don't go tell me twice
Just fall to the brighter side

You whisper little lies in my ear
Softly say how much you're needing me near
Oh yeah well lovely, you're loving me

Speak now of times incomplete
Of all that you have and all that you need
And I will not be afraid to fall

Fall into the brighter side
Of all of this oh what a mess
But don't go tell me twice
Just fall to the brighter side

Every time that you run
You're running farther away
From the one that was so complete
Every time that you stand a little farther away
From the one that was all you needed

So fall into the brighter side
Of all of this oh what a mess
But don't go tell me twice
Just fall to the brighter side

Fall into the brighter side
Of all of this oh what a mess

But don't go tell me twice
Just fall to the brighter side

Overall Meaning

'Mess' by Brian Benham is a song that delves into the complexities of relationships and the challenge of finding the brighter side in the midst of chaos. The opening verses set the tone for the song as the singer pleads with their lover to tell them something that they won't forget, something that will stick in their heads forever. They want to be reminded of a time when they were loved by this person, and it seems as though the relationship has lost its spark. The chorus comes in to provide a glimmer of hope as the singer encourages their lover to fall into the brighter side, to embrace the messiness that comes with a relationship and choose to look beyond it.

The second verse continues the theme of incompleteness and acknowledges the little white lies that can creep into a relationship. The singer affirms that they are not afraid to fall, to take the risk of being hurt in order to embrace the brighter side. The bridge takes a direct turn by contrasting the moments of running away with the moments of completeness. It seems as though the lover is struggling with being fully present in the relationship, and this is causing issues. Despite this, the singer still encourages them to go to the brighter side, to choose to embrace the mess that comes with relationships and not to be dissuaded by it.

Overall, 'Mess' is a song about the challenges of relationships and the need to look beyond the messiness to find the brighter side. The lyrics are deeply introspective and provide a hopeful message despite the challenges.

Awesome overview! Also I appreciate the progress videos as well. Great work!

I watched the series as you were building the desk, this ties them all together very nicely. You are in a master class of woodworkers as well as the metalwork you do.... The way you put the patina on the copper is amazing...

Beautiful desk! Any executive should be proud to sit behind it. I like the thought that included the
Inside details of the drawers. My husband and dad would have loved working with your tools. They did good work with their man power tools.

Bravo! If you work with your hands you are a laborer, with your head you are a craftsman, and with your heart, an artisan. You are definitely an artisan. Inspiring work.
