Satchel And Guise
Brian Benham Lyrics

I wonder if the weather's ever gonna stop
Happy that you came, I didn't stop to catch your name
Darling we just had the loveliest of talks
Tied to your ties, something just ain't right
Tied to your ties, lose the satchel lose your guise
Caught the bad news names and games
So grounded, no one's ever, ever gonna stop
Cap the latest trend, wait four months step back again
Remember everyone's gonna fit you like they want
Tied to your ties, something just ain't right
Tied to your ties, lose the satchel lose your guise
Louder you'll say, don't erase the pain you've paid a number
Higher than the highest of them all
Pace your feet don't stray, speak convictive as you may
And darling, flash a little smile while you talk
Tied to your ties, something just ain't right
Tied to your ties, lose the satchel lose your guise
Tied to your ties, something just ain't right
Tied to your ties, lose the satchel lose your guise
Lose the satchel lose your guise
The lyrics of "Satchel and Guise" by Brian Benham are quite intriguing and multi-faceted. The song begins with a sense of irony as the singer is caught in a lie and is camera shy despite being happy about having a lovely talk with someone. The line "I wonder if the weather's ever gonna stop" creates a sense of uncertainty and instability. The chorus of the song repeats the line "Tied to your ties, lose the satchel lose your guise" which seems to imply that the singer is aware of the constraints that society has placed upon them and is struggling to find a way out of them.
The second verse suggests that the singer is aware of the latest trends and how people try to fit in with them, but they are not willing to compromise their integrity for the sake of conformity. The line "Remember everyone's gonna fit you like they want" is a poignant reminder that societal expectations can be suffocating. The final verse advocates for speaking up and standing up for oneself, despite the pain that may come with it. The repetition of the chorus at the end drives home the message that the only way to break free from the constraints of society is to shed the satchel of conformity and the guise of expected behavior.
Overall, "Satchel and Guise" is a powerful commentary on the pressures and expectations of society. The use of metaphors and imagery creates a sense of introspection and encourages the listener to reflect on their own experiences.

Brian, I’m very intrigued by your workbench. Looks like a torsion box with a sacrificial surface? And it looks like you built lift jacks to enable you to move it (I’m guessing it’s heavy as hell)? Are the legs solid, or are they boxes? Any chance you can do a feature on it? I’m in technical theatre, so big work tables are often more useful than traditional woodworking benches in my line of work.

I know what you mean about the hole saws. It's a bit hard to justify a new custom size you may use once a year, when a little effort and a bit of smoke gets the job done ;D
