Wig-Wam Bam
Brian Connolly's Sweet Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hiawatha didn't bother too much
'Bout Minnie Ha-Ha and her tender touch
Till she took him to the silver stream
Then she whispered words like he had never heard
That made him all shudder inside when she said

Wig-wam bam, gonna make you my man
Wam bam bam, gonna get you if I can
Wig-wam bam, wanna make you understand
Try a little touch, try a little too much
Just try a little wig-wam bam

Running Bear never cared enough
About Little White Dove and her tender love
Till she took him to the silver stream
She told him all about what he couldn't live without
And made him all weak inside when she said

Wig-wam bam, gonna make you my man
Wam bam bam, gonna get you if I can
Wig-wam bam, wanna make you understand
Try a little touch, try a little too much
Just try a little Wig-wam bam

Wig-wam bam sham-a-lam
Wam bam bam sham-a-lam
Wig-wam bam sham-a-lam
Wam bam bam sham-a-lam

Hiawatha didn't bother too much
About Minnie Ha-Ha and her tender touch
Till she took him to the silver stream
Then she whispered words like he'd never heard
That made him all shudder inside when she said

Wig-wam bam, gonna make you my man
Wam bam bam, gonna get you if I can
Wig-wam bam, wanna make you understand
Try a little touch, try a little too much
Just try a little wig-wam bam, and she said

Wig-wam bam, gonna make you my man...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Brian Connolly's Sweet's song Wig Wam Bam tells the story of two different indigenous men, Hiawatha and Running Bear, who both fall under the spell of their respective lovers, Minnie Ha-Ha and Little White Dove, after being taken to the silver stream. The women use their tender touch and whisper words that they have never heard before to make the men feel weak and shudder inside. The chorus of the song is a repetition of the phrase "Wig-wam bam, gonna make you my man, Wam bam bam, gonna get you if I can, Wig-wam bam, wanna make you understand, Try a little touch, try a little too much, Just try a little wig-wam bam" which implies that the men will do whatever the women ask them to do, as they are completely under their spell.

RIP Steve
You leave us so many memories.
You set the bar so high,no one will ever reach it,many have tried.
All of them so talented in every respect,
Brilliant charm,charisma,showmanship,stage prescence the lot.
Never seemed to take themselves seriously, this however imo overshone just how good musicians they actually were.
They were however more than all this.....They were Top Class ENTERTAINERS
I was a fortunate to see them live on several occasions, and boy were they good live.
A phrase often used for many, but in their case so true......We will never see their like again.

1990 and on was the decline, there've actually been videos about how measurable it was. In 1989 my friends and I were very excited about the 90's thinking it was going to be a technological miracle, with astounding production quality and sounds, coupled with sheer talents that the world could hardly imagine; instead the exact opposite happened...rap and grunge were forced through as the industry standards due to how cheap they were both to produce and how the talents weren't nearly as expensive (because they had so much less talent). Vocal skill sets, instrumental skills, compositional skills...ALL went right down the toilet for cheaper-everything. They sold it to the kids, the kids bought it, and music history was permanently altered.

There have been some hints of change more recently, but they're still not "the standard" that there once was in the commercial arena. They're still all on the side while commercial music is all computer generated and computer honed (such as for vocals, no one even needs to really be able to sing any more, with very few exceptions).

And lyrics are all garbage now compared to the poetry of our time.

Polyphia is an exception to the return of the skill sets.

And very little positive, upbeat and fun stuff like Sweet (who are also all talented musicians) exists any longer.

To end on a positive, kids ARE discovering the old music. I know a 19 year old who listens to a lot of 60's and 70's music. He was also home-schooled which I find interesting.

A shame I didn’t grew up in this generation but I love 70s rock like this! I’m a fan of Ted Nugent, Sweet, Ac/Dc and Foghat plus many more of 70s.
Slow Ride by Foghat is my ultimate favorite song. The first song I fell in loved with and learned on bass and guitar. Long Live Rock and Metal! 🤟🏻❤️‍🔥🥁🎤🎼🎸
