Embracing an effortless eloquence and cocoa butter smooth persona, the music of Brian McKnight has defined the true meaning of an American soul-man since 1991. Like his spiritual Motown godfathers, this upstate New York native has a velvety voice and silky style that captures the vibe of vintage soul without being old fashion. On his latest disc Ten, that blend can be clearly heard.
While Brian’s aspirations might have seemed like a lofty ambition, the longevity of his career is a testament to the purity of his vision. With the release of Ten, McKnight’s first disc for his new label Warner Bros Records, the Grammy-nominated singer could not be more pleased with the outcome. Without a doubt, the landscape of soul music has gotten younger, but that fact did not hinder McKnight’s creative process.
After 16 million albums sold since his self-titled debut, it would have been too easy for McKnight to simply follow the R&B template of rote romanticism. But on Ten, the artist in him felt the need to be more revealing. Though McKnight has been friends with producers Tim & Bob for over ten years, this is the trio’s first collaboration.
Though Brian has never been the kind of singer/songwriter that one would call political that didn’t stop him from penning “Red, White & Blue,” a heart wrenching ode for the men and women currently at war, teaming up with country star Rascal Flatts.
Currently working on a variety of projects including a talk show and soundtracks for two upcoming Tyler Perry projects, the veteran soul singer could not be happier with the outcome of Ten. For fans of real music, Ten is the perfect addition to the soul cannon.
Don't Let Me Go

Family and friends all are here
I can't believe that you're still here with me
We've come through mountains of pain
Cloudy skies filled with rain
Can't wash away what Christmas joy will bring
The stockings have been hung
The carols have been sung
I don't deserve you but still you continue to love me
Like every December we've known
Baby hold on to me
Don't let me go
Seems like thousands of presents are under the tree
Some for you and some for me
We watch the fire make its' glow
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
I reach for your hand
We touch, I shiver
You extend your lips to me
Then I realize what Christmas really means
It's the joy inside my heart
And knowing that we'll never be apart
Only one thing in this world I know for sure
I don't deserve you but still you continue to love me
Like every December we've known
Baby hold on to me
Don't let me go
Don't let me go
Don't let me go
What I'm gonna do
Is make the rest of my life
Like Christmas time with you
Don't let me go
What I'm gonna do
Is make the rest of my life
Like Christmas time with you
Don't let me go
In Brian McKnight's song, "Don't Let Me Go," he sings about Christmas time and being grateful for his loved one. The opening lines express the joy of the holiday season, with family and friends gathered together, and the delight in the fact that his significant other is present. He reflects on the challenges of their relationship, the struggles they have faced, but despite everything, they have stayed together. McKnight emphasizes the importance of the Christmas season, with its message of love and hope, and how it has brought them closer together. The song ends with a vow to make their life together as wonderful as Christmas time.
Overall, the song captures the essence of what the holiday season is about - love, family, and togetherness. It's easy to get caught up in the gifts and the commercial aspect of Christmas, but McKnight reminds us that the real magic of the season lies in spending time with those we love and cherishing the moments we have together.
