In the 1980s, Setzer fronted the popular rockabilly band, Stray Cats. Stray Cats caught America's attention with the 1982 album Built for Speed, which included the two Top Ten hits, Rock This Town (#9) and Stray Cat Strut (#3), as well as with the follow-up 1983 album Rant N Rave, which included the two successful singles (She's) Sexy + 17 (#5), and I Won't Stand In Your Way (#35).
In the 1990s, Setzer led a comeback of sorts for swing music and big band music, when he formed Brian Setzer Orchestra. The band has released 5 albums to date and one live DVD. This group had one hit, Jump, Jive, and Wail around the same time songs like the Cherry Poppin' Daddies Zoot Suit Riot had been received favorably in mainstream America.
Brian Setzer also recorded some solo albums during Stray Cats' break in the 1980s along with some in the 1990s. In 2001 he released an album titled Ignition with his band '68 Comeback Special. A new solo album titled Rockabilly Riot Vol. 1: A Tribute To Sun Records was released on July 26, 2005, in the United States.

you be the wheels, i be the spokes baby
when you start a-turnin', my heart will start a-burnin'
slow down, baby slow down
slow down, set me free
got my haunted heart goin' round and round
you live too fast, you got so much class
slow down, baby slow down
oh yeah, i know i should leave you mama
and go out to another town
but i don't know why i can't say goodbye
all i can say is baby slow down
slow down, set me free
got my haunted heart goin' round and round
you live too fast, you got so much class
slow down, baby slow down
slow down, set me free
got my haunted heart goin' round and round
you live too fast, you got so much class
slow down, baby slow down
The lyrics of Brian Setzer's song Slow Down describe a passionate but unbalanced relationship between the two lovers. The singer pictures himself as the spokes in a set of wheels, with his partner being the wheels themselves. The comparison suggests that he is subordinate to the other person, who is the driving force in their relationship. Despite this power dynamic, he is enamored with their fast pace of life and desperately wants to keep up. When they're together, his heart races with excitement and admiration for his lover, which prompts him to plead with them to slow down so he can catch his breath.
However, he knows that he cannot keep up with their fast-paced lifestyle and must find a way to break free. He acknowledges that he should let go of this relationship and move on, but he is unable to and begs his lover to slow down so that he can enjoy their time together. In the final stanza, the singer repeats the chorus, "slow down, set me free, got my haunted heart goin' round and round, you live too fast, you got so much class, slow down, baby slow down" This repetition emphasises the intensity of their relationship and the singer's longing for his significant other to ease up and give him a chance to catch up.
The song's themes of passion, infatuation, and longing are reinforced by the upbeat and driving rockabilly sound that Setzer employs in its composition. This contrast between the lyrics and the music highlights the tension between the singer's genuine affection for his partner and his inability to cope with their carefree lifestyle.
