Celine Dion
All The Way-a Decade Of Song
All The Way
When somebody loves you
It's no good unless he loves you - all the way
Happy to be near you
When you need someone to cheer you - all the way
Taller than the tallest tree is
That's how it's got to feel
Deeper than the deep blue sea is
That's how deep it goes - if its real

When somebody needs you
It's no good unless he needs you - all the way
Through the good or lean years
And for all the in between years - come what way

Who know where the road will lead us
Only a fool would say

But if you'll let me love you
It's for sure i'm gonna love you - all the way, all the way

Overall Meaning

The song "All the Way" by Celine Dion is a romantic ballad that expresses the depth of love a person should feel for their significant other. The opening verses suggest that true love is not just about being loved by someone but also giving love back "all the way". The song talks about the importance of being faithful and committed to a relationship, being present whenever needed and supporting each other through thick and thin, for the short and long term.

The lines "Taller than the tallest tree is, that's how it's got to feel, deeper than the deep blue sea is, that's how deep it goes - if it's real" emphasizes the depth and intensity of true love, that it should transcend all boundaries and limits, and be felt with the utmost sincerity. The bridge of the song "Who knows where the road will lead us, only a fool would say, but if you'll let me love you, it's for sure I'm gonna love you - all the way, all the way" reaffirms the singer's commitment and willingness to love their partner unconditionally, no matter where the relationship takes them.

The only time I've heard this great song on the radio was when I spent the summer in Memphis, Tennesse in 1980. This song stands by itself, but would be a great movie soundtrack song. This song was just one of several great songs which they did in the early to mid 1980's, that did not get mass media attention.

I had the 45 twice. I bought it as a single in ‘79/80 and it was later released as a B-side to Push Push I believe.
