The group's early lineup featured Adam Hamilton (L.A. Guns), John Corabi (Mötley Crüe, The Scream, Union) and drummer Kris Kohls (Adema) while Sixx's future Sixx:A.M. bandmate DJ Ashba (Beautiful Creatures, ASHBA, BulletBoys) was invited to join but declined to focus on other projects.
They released debut album Here Come the Brides in 2004 (which charted at number 92 on the Billboard 200) and toured before Sixx departed to rejoin Mötley Crüe. Scott Sorry (Amen, The Wildhearts, Sorry and the Sinatras) replaced Sixx while Ginger (The Wildhearts) joined the group briefly, contributing to the second album, Runaway Brides, released in 2005. The group toured but eventually were put on hiatus, in 2006, following Guns' brief stint in Quiet Riot and the formation of The Tracii Guns Band (which later became the second L.A. Guns). The other members have since moved onto other groups with Coogan playing in Lynch Mob and LeGrand forming Souls of We .
I Got a Gun
Brides of Destruction Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You ever wonder
Found out what you are
Wishing on a star
Or if my dealt card
Has numbed the pain you've laid
I got a gun
I'm on the run
And now it's time to pay
You father
You ever dare
Question words of blame
Hen of guilt and shame
Or this world I've drained
Flushing hopes of today
I got a gun
And nothing to say
I'm on the run
Blow yourselves away
I gotta gun
And nothing to say
I'm on the run
And nothing to say
I got a gun
And nothing to say
I'm on the run
Blow yourselves away
I got a gun
And nothing to say
The lyrics to Brides of Destruction's song "I Got a Gun" are full of anger and frustration towards a father figure. The singer questions whether their father ever truly knew who they were, and whether they ever had hope for a better future, symbolized by wishing on a star. The singer then turns the blame back on their father, daring him to question their words of blame and guilt. The line "Hen of guilt and shame" is potentially a play on the phrase "hen of the woods," a type of mushroom with a general shape like a hen.
The repeated lines "I got a gun and nothing to say" suggest that the singer feels like they have exhausted all other options for expressing themselves or seeking justice. They have reached a breaking point and are now ready to take action on their own terms, even if it means resorting to violence. The final line "Blow yourselves away" could be interpreted as a call for anyone who has wronged the singer to destroy themselves, rather than waiting for someone else to do it.
Overall, "I Got a Gun" is a dark and intense song that touches on themes of parental neglect, emotional pain, and the possibility of taking revenge through violence.
