Par l’empire à la bannière étoilée
1890 à Wounded Knee
La résistance semblait finie
Signe du temps, signe du sang
Triste continuation
Expansionnisme guerrier
Présent ensanglanté
Viva Latino America
Fuera Yankees !
L’oncle Sam et ses tactiques
Sous les trop tristes tropiques
La dépendance économique
Par la répression politique
Politicards asservis
A la triste aumône du F.M.I
L’immonde chantage nord américain
Fait crever le peuple de faim
Souviens-toi d’Allende,
En 73 assassiné
Souviens-toi, El Salvador
Tout un peuple ensanglanté
Souviens toi de Mexico
Sur la place des Trois-Cultures
Ce sont les veines ouvertes
De America Latina
Esto es la historia
Del chico chico guerrillero
Que se va a la selva
Para matar
El burges rico
Nuestra America, del Bravo a Magallanes. A los caidos en tierra brava. Chile. Frente Patriotico Manuel Rodriguez. A los martires del MRTA. Lima Peru. A todas las banderas libres, Puerto Rico Panama. Managua, Nicaragua. A Los ocupantes del Hotel Sheraton, San Salvador. Tupamaros, Uruguay. Zapatistas, Eperristas, desde las montanas de Mexico. Chicanos mojados, de East Los asta Nueva York. El pueblo de cobre, ni se rinde, ni se vende. A Marti, a Sandino. A todos los anonimos, muertes fertiles. Por la nueva America, nuestra America !
Continente olvidado by Brigada Flores Magon is a song that is meant to remind people of the political oppression and economic subjugation that Latin America has faced over the years at the hands of the United States. The first verse of the song speaks about the occupation of half of the continent by the USA and how the resistance against it seemed to have ended with the massacre at Wounded Knee in 1890. The lyrics describe this as a sign of how the expansionist policies of the US have led to bloodshed and misery in Latin America. The second verse speaks about how the US has employed political tactics to subjugate the countries in Latin America by funding politicians who would work for them, imposing economic dependency and using political repression to stifle any dissent. The lyrics also make references to historical events like the assassination of Salvador Allende and the mass killing of people in El Salvador, as well as events like the occupation of the Hotel Sheraton in San Salvador, which was carried out by rebels who were opposing the American influence in their country.
The refrain of the song is "Viva Latino America, Fuera Yankees!" (Long live Latin America, Down with the Yankees!), which is a call to arms against the US influence in the region. The song ends with a list of names of people and groups who have fought against the US hegemony in the region, from the Chileans who fought against the Pinochet regime to the Zapatistas of Mexico who have been fighting for the rights of the indigenous people.
Overall, Continente Olvidado is a potent political statement about the struggles of Latin America against foreign oppression and the need to keep fighting for the rights of the people.
