A throwback to the flower power era, '60s revivalists Brigitte are a French female duo combining lounge-pop, retro folk, and French cabaret to produce an authentic hippie-chic sound. Named in honor of several of the decade's icons (Bardot, Fontaine, Lahaie), Aurelie Maggiori, who had previously recorded under the name of Mayane Delem, and Sylvie Hoarau, formerly the lead vocalist in Parisian rock band Vendetta, formed their duo in 2008. After recording a cover version of Michel Jonasz's "Les Vacances au Bord de la Mer" for Delem's former bandmate Benoit Petre's film Thelma Louise et Chantal, the pair signed to Wagram Records and released an EP, Battez-Vous, which featured a unique take on Suprême NTM's '90s hip-hop anthem "Ma Benz." Co-written with Franco-Lebanese singer/songwriter Camille Bazbaz and French troubadour Albin de la Simone, their debut album, Et Vous, Tu M'aimes?, was released in 2011. ~ Jon O'Brien, Rovi
Jesus sex symbol

What a joy to be on his wing
What a joy, he shines on me
Jesus, Jesus shines on me
Jesus, Jesus shines on me
Jesus, Jesus shines on me
Donnez-moi l'amour
Donnez-moi du rouge
Donnez-moi l'enfer
Kiffe tes longs cheveux, ton corps, nu mon Jesus sex symbol
Donnez-moi la fièvre
Pendant des heures
Et le suprême
Pour mon quatre heures
Le souffle court
Le diable au cœur
Je ne finirai pas bonne sœur
Je t'implore oh mon Dieu que tu me pardonnes
Oh mon Dieu j'aime le rock'n'roll
Oh mon Dieu, mon âme de démone
Kiffe tes longs cheveux, ton corps nu mon Jesus sex symbol
Donnez-moi un verre, une cigarette
C'est la dernière, demain j'arrête
Promis juré, craché par terre
Si je mens j'vais en enfer
Je t'implore, oh mon Dieu, que tu me pardonnes
Oh mon Dieu, j'aime le rock'n'roll
Oh mon Dieu, mon âme de démone
Kiffe tes longs cheveux, ton corps, nu mon Jesus sex symbol
The song "Jesus sex symbol" by Brigitte is a daring and provocative exploration of the intersection of religion and sexuality. The French lyrics express a joy in singing Jesus's prayers and being under his wing, while also expressing a desire for flesh, sensuality, and even the flame of hell. The lyrics suggest a deep dilemma about the possibility of reconciling the religious and the carnal, expressing both submission to God and an embrace of temptation and desire.
The chorus of the song repeats the lines "Jesus, Jesus shines on me", emphasizing the idea of Jesus as a source of light in a world that can be dark and confusing. This imagery can be interpreted as a metaphor for the role of faith in navigating the complexities of human desires and experiences. The lyrics also contain a confession of sin, with the singer imploring God for forgiveness for their love of rock and roll and their wild, rebellious spirit.
Overall, the song can be seen as a bold exploration of the ways in which religious belief can coexist with and even be enriched by a deep engagement with the body, the senses, and the pleasures of life.
