It Was Written in Blood
Bring Me the Horizon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Goodbye my friend, goodbye
My love, you're in my heart
It was preordained that we should part
We're united by and by, united by and by
Goodbye
No handshake to endure, there was nothing

[Chorus]
It was written in blood
It was written in blood
It was written in blood
Oh god, written in blood
It was written in blood
It was written in blood
Oh my god, it was written in blood

Inside no sadness, for a prowl
As nothing new lay dying now
Inside no sadness, for a prowl
And nothing new lay dying now

And it was written in blood

It was written in blood
It was written in blood
It was written in blood
Oh my god, it was written in blood
It was written in blood
It was written in blood
Oh my god!
It was written, in blood
On a suicide note

Like roses, we blossom and die
Like roses, we blossom and die
Like roses, we blossom and die
We fall apart (Die)
We fall apart (Die)

Like roses, we blossom and die
Like roses, we blossom and die
We fall apart
We fall apart
Like roses
We've fallen apart, fallen apart

It was written in blood
On a fucking suicide note
The night before he died

[Chorus]

Like roses, we blossom and die
Like roses, we blossom and die
We've fallen apart (Fallen apart!)
We've fallen apart (Fallen apart!)
Fallen apart
We've fallen

These roses, white roses
Roses

My roses
White roses

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Bring Me the Horizon's song "It Was Written in Blood" are contemplative and suggest a sudden end. The song deals with the theme of death, painted with a touch of sadness as the singer talks about grieving the loss of a friend, lover or possibly even himself. The tone of the song is melancholic yet peaceful. The opening lines “Goodbye my friend, goodbye / My love, you're in my heart / It was preordained that we should part” serve as a eulogy to someone who's already gone. The lyrics then continue to describe how this separation was inevitable and written in 'blood', a metaphor that could indicate the inevitable relationship between life and death.

Throughout the lyrics, the singer acknowledges that death is a natural part of life, as if he is reconciling with his own imminent passing. The line "Like roses, we blossom and die" alludes to the fleeting nature of life and the beauty of death, just like a rose that blooms for a brief moment before wilting away. The singer seems to suggest that death should be accepted as a natural part of the cycle of life, as represented by the roses.

In conclusion, the song revolves around coming to terms with death and learning to accept it as a natural part of life. The singer is bidding farewell to his loved ones and accepting that his time is up. He sees the beauty in the transience of life, just like that of a blooming rose.

It Was Written In Blood (Lyrics)

Goodbye, my friend, goodbye, my love, you're in my heart
It was preordained that we should part
And be reunited by and by, united by and by
Goodbye no handshake to endure, now there's nothing

It was written in blood, it was written in blood
It was written in blood, oh, God, written in blood
It was written in blood, it was written in blood
Oh, my God, it was written in blood

Let's have no sadness, furrowed brow
There's nothing new in dying now
Let's have no sadness, furrowed brow
There's nothing new in dying now
Though living is no newer
Though living is no newer
And it was written in blood

It was written in blood, it was written in blood
It was written in blood, oh God, it was written in blood
It was written in blood, it was written in blood
Oh, my God, it was written in blood on a suicide note

Like roses, we blossom then die
Like roses, we blossom then die
Like roses, we blossom then die
Like roses, we fall apart
Like roses, we fall apart
Like roses, we blossom then die
Like roses, we blossom then die
Like roses, we blossom then die
Like roses, we fall apart
Like roses, we fall apart
Though living is no newer
Though living is no newer
(It was written in blood, on a fucking suicide note
The day before he died)

It was written in blood, it was written in blood
It was written in blood, my God, written in blood

Here We Are

Traduzione It Was Written In Blood

Addio amico mio

Addio amore mio

Sei nel mio cuore

Era prestabilito che ci saremmo dovuti dividere

E riunire poco dopo

Riunire poco dopo

Addio!

Nessuna stretta di mano da far durare

No, non c'era niente

Era scritto nel sangue

Era scritto nel sangue

Era scritto nel sangue

Oh dio, scritto nel sangue

Era scritto nel sangue

Era scritto nel sangue

Oh mio dio, era scritto nel sangue

Non dobbiamo essere tristi

Sopracciglia aggrottate

Non c'è nulla di nuovo

Che sta morendo ora

Non dobbiamo essere tristi

Sopracciglia aggrottate

Non c'è nulla di nuovo

Che sta morendo ora

Anche se vivere non è più nuovo

Anche se vivere non è più nuovo

E era scritto nel sangue

Era scritto nel sangue

Era scritto nel sangue

Era scritto nel sangue

Oh dio, scritto nel sangue

Era scritto nel sangue

Era scritto nel sangue

Oh mio Dio!

Era scritto...

Nel sangue!

Su un biglietto di suicidio

Come rose

Sbocciamo e poi moriamo!

Come rose

Sbocciamo e poi moriamo!

Come rose

Sbocciamo e poi moriamo!

Siamo divisi!

(Morti)

Siamo divisi!

Divisi!

(Morti)

Come rose

Sbocciamo e poi moriamo!

Come rose

Sbocciamo e poi moriamo!

Siamo divisi!

Siamo divisi!

Come rose

Ci siamo divisi

Divisi!

Anche se vivere non è più nuovo

Anche se vivere non è più nuovo

Era scritto nel sangue

Su un fottuto biglietto di suicidio

La notte prima che morisse

Era scritto nel sangue

Era scritto nel sangue

Era scritto nel sangue

Mio dio, scritto nel sangue!

Era scritto nel sangue

Era scritto nel sangue

Oh mio Dio!

Era scritto...

Nel sangue!

Come rose

Sbocciamo e poi moriamo!

Come rose

Sbocciamo e poi moriamo!

Siamo divisi!

Divisi!

Ci siamo divisi

Divisi!

Divisi!

Cadiamo!

Come rose

Come rose

Rose!

Come rose

Rose!

Come rose

Come rose

Come rose

Come rose

Come rose

Whatever era of BMTH you are in to, one thing you have to admit is that Oli is a great lyricist

Alexander Mżelski

Because he took a great poem and added like two lines, lol

shady

@Alexander Mżelski i mean the poem is done being recited like a minute into the song. The rest of the song repeats alot about “roses” and “we blossom and die” which are not from the poem. Also turning a poem like that that would take 10 seconds to recite into a 4 minute metalcore song is pretty impressive

thescenetimecontinuum!

@shady how exactly is it impressive? writing a basic song with basic lyrics that are directly based off someone else's work is not impressive in the slightest...

shady

@thescenetimecontinuum! oh okay then you can easily take some random edgar allen poe poem and turn it into a 4 minute metal core deep cut off a sophmore album that garners 700k views in less than a decade. Ill be waiting.

I miss their old sound, but I embraced the new. I love them in their entirety.

Brandon Burrow finally someone that just appreciates their artistic ability, yeah I wish they still had this sound. But for the sake of his voice they changed their sound and they are still breaking boundaries.
