Let Go
Britney Spears Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's written everywhere
I've even read it in my script
But when I thought it wasn't fair
I felt it on my lips, let go
I don't wanna be the one
I think you already know, oh

The feeling of going down way too deep
Holding on
So you won't lose your feet
Sometimes you just gotta trust
You gotta take that leap
And let go
Gotta let go

I've got a feeling
By a look you're through
Oh no
What you're revealing
I sit and pray
And I will pull through, oh yeah

When you let go
Of all you've known
The butterflies fly
And you will see the rainbow
And all the love
Everything will be shown
So let go
Let go

The touch of grass
The air
The sun it will rise
You will see so clear
It will bring tears to your eyes
Maybe everything will be alright
So let go
You gotta let go

I've got a feeling
Right now
You feel it too
Oh, oh
This little song
Might be the one
That will tell us what to do
Oh, oh, ooh, ooh

These tears are overflowing
And never knowing why
All these years we've been
We've been hurting
We have to look inside
And try
To let go

You gotta let go
To love, you gotta let go

If you really wanna love
You gotta let go>

Overall Meaning

The song "Let Go" by Britney Spears is a powerful ballad about learning to release the things that are holding you back in order to move forward and find love. The lyrics speak to the feeling of being weighed down by past hurts and the fear of taking risks, but also to the exhilaration and freedom that comes with finally letting go. Spears sings, "When you let go of all you've known, the butterflies fly and you will see the rainbow and all the love everything will be shown."

The first verse references the idea of seeing things "written everywhere" and reading them in a script, which could be interpreted as societal pressure or cultural expectations. But despite feeling that it's not fair, the singer ultimately succumbs to the feeling and says, "I felt it on my lips, let go." This can be seen as a metaphor for learning to trust your instincts and let go of the need to control everything.

The chorus urges the listener to "let go" and trust that everything will be okay. Spears sings about the sensation of "going down way too deep" and feeling like you're going to lose your footing, but ultimately concluding that sometimes you just have to "take that leap" and let go. The bridge of the song has a hopeful and uplifting message with lyrics that describe the beauty of nature and the idea that "everything will be alright" if you just have the courage to let go.

Overall, "Let Go" is a moving and inspiring song about the power of releasing fear and trusting yourself to take risks and find love.

Imagine this: Britney is on stage, goes to the piano, and then she starts singing this live. I would burst out in tears.

@rick tham Maybe Britney didn't want to put it on Blackout. She put Why Should I Be Sad on Blackout as the only "ballad" there. And the title pretty much explains why she didn't put any ballads on Blackout: Enough with the sadness and the ballads, why should I be sad?

rick tham

Why was this never released

Gabe Barrera

But imagine if she did this song at the 2007 VMA’s? That would’ve been legendary!

I love her turning the pages. She still had this voice during blackout. Pretty sure today it's much or less the same. Hope to see it in a full album one day. The legendary miss Britney Spears.

@RyanRoadReaper yeah but this song was recorded after her divorce with Kevin. She divorced him in November 2006. So she must have written it two months after the divorce. Who knows. She probably recorded it in late 2006. You can hear the hurt and emotion in her voice. And the page turning. She did this in the studio.

RyanRoadReaper

@MaryamMure incorrect. This song was recorded in 2006. It was leaked in 2007, though.

MaryamMure

She recorded this in the studio and that's why you hear the pages being turned she recorded in late 2006 . She was saying goodbye to Kevin
