Perkins and Stevens left the band in 2000, and Felton left in 2004. Stevens released a solo album under the name Roj, and Felton formed the group Seeland with Billy Bainbridge from Plone. After the January 2011 death of Trish Keenan, James Cargill is the only current member of the band.
The band has released five albums in their career: "The Noise Made by People" (2000), "Haha Sound" (2003), "Tender Buttons" (2005), "Broadcast and The Focus Group Investigate Witch Cults of the Radio Age" (2009, with The Focus Group) and "Berberian Sound Studio" (2013), the soundtrack to the film of the same name. Cargill has stated that plans for an album featuring Keenan's final recordings is in the works.
The band's first releases were singles released on Wurlitzer Jukebox Records ( "Accidentals" ) and Duophonic Records ("The Book Lovers") in the mid-1990s. "The Book Lovers" was also featured on the soundtrack of the film Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. They attracted the attention of Warp Records, who compiled the singles in 1997 on "Work and Non Work".
The band was chosen by Matt Groening to perform at the All Tomorrow's Parties festival he curated in May 2010 in Minehead, Somerset, England.
The band's style is a mixture of electronic sounds and Keenan's 1960s-influenced vocals. It is heavily influenced by the 1960s influenced American psychedelic group The United States of America, using many of the same electronic effects. It was also reminiscent of Stereolab. However, despite the similar musical pedigree, Broadcast's music is often darker and edgier in sound – with amorphous samples and analogue dissonance giving it a retro-futuristic sci-fi edge.
On January 14th, 2011, Trish Keenan died from complications caused by pneumonia.

Lights Out

A situation that's like one too
And that can't really look at my time
It's harder in the morning
My room's too small for parties
Too spacious when you're lonely
So books can make us friends
That's as long as we're reading
I want to watch the car park empty
It's easy when they're strangers to wave goodbye
My brother's back off holiday
He's been chasing girls in spain
He said he'd bring me a guitar
Which I said would bring me fame
I remember your excitement
Choosing pictures for your wall
And now you've seen them oh so often
You hardly see them anymore
Turn the light's off when you're leaving
I want to watch the car park empty
It's easy when they're strangers to wave goodbye
I remember your excitement
Choosing pictures for your wall
And now you've seen them oh so often
You hardly see them anymore
Turn the light's off when you're leaving
I want to watch the car park empty
It's easy when they're strangers to wave goodbye
The lyrics of "Lights Out" by Broadcast depict a sense of loneliness and detachment from the world around us. The singer notes the difficulty of facing each new day and the isolation of their living space. They suggest that books provide a way to connect with others, as long as they are read. The mention of turning off the lights when leaving reinforces the idea of being alone and disconnected. The singer longs to watch the car park empty, which seems to represent a sense of closure and goodbye. The mention of the brother returning from holiday and the promise of fame through a guitar seems to highlight the fleeting nature of our dreams and aspirations. The repetition of the lines about choosing pictures for the wall and hardly seeing them anymore highlights the way in which we can become disconnected from the things that once brought us joy.
Overall, the song seems to be a meditation on the difficulty of finding connection and meaning in a busy and chaotic world. It reflects a sense of alienation and detachment, but also hints at the possibility of finding connections through art and literature.

This is just....so special in my mind. So beautiful and melancholy, in the sweetest, most elegant possible way.
I love the slight eeriness that usually accompanies many of their songs.
This one can absolutely destroy me in just a few lines....
"I remember your excitement
Choosing pictures for your wall
And now you`ve seen them oh so often
You hardly see them anymore "
The thought that you take the things you love for granted so much that you don't realize what you have anymore.
Good God.

Trish, since then, every time I hear your voice I shiver. It's like feeling the most beautiful emotion and bleeding inside at the same time. I wish now you're living a new happy life in a world made of all the dreams you gave to us.
