Hair
Broadway Cast Lyrics

She asks me why
I'm just a hairy guy
I'm hairy noon and night
Hair that's a fright
I'm hairy high and low
Don't ask me why
Don't know
It's not for lack of bread
Like the Grateful Dead
Darling

Gimme head with hair
Long beautiful hair
Shining, gleaming,
Streaming, flaxen, waxen

Give me down to there hair
Shoulder length or longer
Here baby, there mama
Everywhere daddy daddy

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

Let it fly in the breeze
And get caught in the trees
Give a home to the fleas in my hair
A home for fleas
A hive for bees
A nest for birds
There ain't no words
For the beauty, the splendor, the wonder
Of my...

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

I want it long, straight, curly, fuzzy
Snaggy, shaggy, ratty, matty
Oily, greasy, fleecy
Shining, gleaming, streaming
Flaxen, waxen
Knotted, polka-dotted
Twisted, beaded, braided
Powdered, flowered, and confettied
Bangled, tangled, spangled, and spaghettied!

Oh say can you see
My eyes if you can
Then my hair's too short

Down to here
Down to there
Down to where
It stops by itself

They'll be ga ga at the go go
When they see me in my toga
My toga made of blond
Brilliantined
Biblical hair

My hair like Jesus wore it
Hallelujah I adore it
Hallelujah Mary loved her son
Why don't my mother love me?

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

We starve, look at one another short of breath
Walking proudly in our winter coats
Wearing smells from laboratories
Facing a dying nation of moving paper fantasy
Listening for the new told lies
With supreme visions of lonely tunes
Singing our space songs on a spiderweb sitar
"Life is around you and in you"
Answer for Timothy Leary, deary
Let the sun shine
Let The sunshine in
The sun shine in
Let the sun shine
Let The sunshine in
The sun shine in
Let the sun shine
Let The sunshine in
The sun shine in
Let the sun shine
Let The sunshine in
The sun shine in

Nobody will probably believe this, but the redhead with the bandana, second from the left is my wife...her stage name/maiden name was Linda Compton...

@Social Chameleon I think we all decide, every moment of every day, what we will do after this moment. I always hope my next moment will be as exciting as the last. Maybe more...

@Social Chameleon We are retired...she is a grandmother with two of our own children. My wife wasn't the traditional hippie she just wanted to be on stage and now has great, fond memories.

What is she up to nowadays? I always wonder what us Broadway Performers do after? I’m heading close to that after lol

If you have seen productions in recent years...the songs are the same basically but the "feeling" is just not there...this Cast lived the era...felt the emotions...and they let it all out on stage....THIS was HAIR.....all much later versions did not have the "FEELING"...
