After a lot of shopping for a new label and little interest, they decided to create and release the "Black Death" LP themselves. For 5 years they worked hard in their Caverns of Thunder basement-studio.
After that, Brocas Helm made a couple of (unreleased) demos, mostly to get a label-deal so they could do a high-quality cd release. Meanwhile, although labels have showed some interest but not enough to actually sign Brocas Helm, Brocas Helm released the "Skullfucker" single.
Brocas Helm later released a live album, "Black Death in Athens", and a new opus, "Defender of the Crown".
In 2011 Brocas Helm announced their breakup at the German Keep It True festival. However, in May 2012 they performed at Ragnarokkr Metal Apocalypse in Joiliet, Illinois.
Night Siege
Brocas Helm Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Seems a century away
For mist and dark first brought them here
And in dark and mist they slay
Arrows arching through the night
Bring flame within our walls
And spells they've sent to steal our souls
[Chorus]
Night is a fantasy take it away
Metal's unreal in the morning
These five million warriors
Belong in a dream
You'll wake up if you scream out a warning
Night siege
So chill and grim, the castle now
Our prison and our grave
Yet, surely dawn will slay these fiends
If it comes in time to save
[repeat chorus twice]
The lyrics to Brocas Helm’s song “Night Siege” describe a siege on a castle that takes place during the night. The coming dawn seems far away, as the mist and dark that originally brought the attackers still linger. The attackers are deadly, firing arrows that bring flames into the castle walls, and sending spells that hold many people in the castle under their control. Despite the danger, the lyrics suggest that there is a sense of unreality to the situation, as if the events are like a fantasy. The lyrics describe the attackers as warriors from a dream, and the metal that surrounds them as “unreal in the morning.”
The chorus of the song emphasizes this idea of the siege being like a dream. The night and its dangers are depicted as a kind of escapism, something to be taken away once the morning comes. The last line of the chorus, “You’ll wake up if you scream out a warning,” captures the surreal tone of the song. It suggests that even though there is grave danger, there is still hope that someone will wake up and escape the nightmare.
Overall, the lyrics seem to be about the terror of a nighttime attack on a castle, but they also present this fear as a kind of dreamlike unreality. The siege is both real and unreal, something that can be escaped if one can only wake up.
