Brook and Dinah make me so happy. I am 70 and my Mom played they all the time!!! I know my 3 sister's and Mom were the only people rockin out to they in small Texas town in the 50's. We were white and I loved that my Mom had such good taste!!! Brooke is gorgous.
Dinah had a sad life but what a talent!!!!! Good Times...great singer's!!!

Hi, I am around your age, also from the South. My mom used to borrow her boyfriend's record player & some of his blues records which included Brook, Billie Holliday, & others. I was in my early teens & fell in love with this guy's songs. Also we saw a movie back then, "Walk On The Wild Side" where he sang the theme song. I am elated to learn that younger generations are being exposed to great music like this by whatever means they come across it.

I am 71 & I have always loved Brooke Benton. And this song with Dinah Washington is such a great happy song! My Mama played all sorts of music & she loved to sing along & she is where I learned to live all genres of music & I will always love the music from the ‘50’s- early 70’s.

Are you serious? I grew up listening to his songs, especially on a Sunday. Rice and peas and fries chicken or home style. Carrot or sour sop juice....... I've never forgotten them with and much more.

Great comments on this post - Makes you feel so good! I’m listening in 2020 December almost 2021; I heard this in 1960. My Dad was stationed in Okinawa, the whole family there; I’m listening to this with my little transistor radio, up to my ear. Little 14 year old white boy- I couldn’t believe this awesome black music ! It spoke to me more than any music: R&B...the days of the Coasters, Sam Cooke, and Ray; Dinah’s smoky voice, and Brooks expressions. So fine! We owe a debt of gratitude to the roots and legacy of all African American music! All the way back to gospel and jazz. Taught us soul!

Brook and Dinah did a few songs together. Remind me of my grandmother and her siblings partying when I was a little girl. They are all gone now. Miss those great memories.

My mother bought me a Brook Benton CD over 20 years ago and I listened to it and became a fan of his. Such an underrated and under appreciated singer. Well worthy of a place in the rock and roll hall of fame.

Thank you for loading this song. My Mom Loved Dinah Washington. My Dad was a Big Brook Benton Fan. I once play my Brook CD at work, the Elvis Fans wanted to borrow my CD. I told them no. I also let them know it wasn't Elvis that it was Brook Benton. They accuse me of lying till they looked at the CD. Then got angry and wouldn't speak to me after the incident.
This made my day.

@walt7500 She was known to be dufficult at times but Brooke Benton never said an unkind word about her. When she died he commented on her talent. And added that although she was known to be difficult it was because Dinah didnt take crap off record producers who were infamous for taking advanatage of black musicians and often disrespected female artist. Dinah Washington stood her ground.

One more year Dinah will have been 100 in end of August , sad she passed away at 39yrs back in 1963. Brook passed away in 1988 at 57 yrs .RIP to both of you's . 2 golden gifted

It was all for show. When Dinah says at the end "Stay out of my spot" that was her real anger directed towards Brooke who during recordings would come in a bit too early. Dinah Washington was known for her fiery attitude. However, they did make great duets.

Sounds so much like a one take recording ...not just from another era, another planet. I heard this in a chicken commercial and I had to hear it again. It's like skipping stones on a river.... Washington's voice has that little growl to it that they used to love in the 50s in women's voices...earthiness....R&B? well its not like the crap on the airwaves now

Brook Benton and Dinah Washington - was very loved and BIG RECORDING STARS in NYC - The Album “The Two OF US” was a Million Seller in NYC - Thst album produce 2 Songs that hit the Charts Big Time - “Baby You Got What It Takes” and “Rocking Good Way” The album was in 1960 and that album in my opinion should be in everyone’s collection - like I said - “The Two Of Us” album by Dinah and Brook - was BIg in NYC - It’s still one of my favorite albums - You can probably still get it on a CD - if you can - Grad it - You won’t regret it
