Sometimes Love
Brooke White Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Can we have an honest conversation
Underneath the surface where we've been stayin'
Where it's comfortable, where we play it safe
And we try so hard, not to make mistakes.

Spend a lot of time but I don't really know you
Think we've reached a point where I wanna show you
Who I really am, what I think about,
What makes me smile, what brings me down oh

I guess I feel some hesitation,
Before we say those words.

Sometimes love, is an empty invitation.
Sometimes love is a word that's used in vain.
Sometimes love is just, something that people say, everyday
And I don't want it that way

We've both been in situations
Where we woke up at a revelation
But a little voice, said it wouldn't last,
Hey don't walk away, leave it in the past oh.

We wrestle with the reservations,
Now we're finding it hard to say those words.

Sometimes love, is an empty invitation.
Sometimes love is a word that's used in vain.
Sometimes love is just, something that people say, everyday
And I don't want it that way
And I don't want it that way

Sometimes love, is an open invitation.
Sometimes love is a word that heals the pain.
Sometimes love, is more, than just something that people say, everyday
And I want you that way.

Oh oh love
Well I want you that way.

Overall Meaning

In this song, Brooke White is expressing her desire for a deeper connection with a person she's been spending a lot of time with. However, even though they've spent so much time together, she feels like she doesn't really know who they are beyond the surface level. She wants to have an honest conversation where they can reveal their true selves and truly connect with each other. She acknowledges that they've both been hurt before and are hesitant to express their feelings, but she doesn't want to settle for a shallow version of love that's just an empty word. She wants a love that's deep, genuine and healing.

The song talks about the different meanings that love can have. Sometimes love can be just a word that people use without truly meaning it or understanding its weight. It can feel meaningless and empty. But sometimes, love can be an open invitation that brings healing and connection. White is hoping that the love she has with this person can be the latter, but she knows that in order for that to happen, they both need to be willing to be vulnerable and honest with each other.

The song's message is simple yet deeply profound - love is more than just a word, it's an experience that requires honesty, vulnerability, and openness. It's a powerful reminder that we should never settle for shallow connections and meaningless words. Instead, we should strive for the kind of love that brings healing and connection to our lives.

definitely, one of my favourite brooke white song on the album!, this is where her element shines. She really did well with the lyrics for all the other songs.

I absolutely love Brooke! Her album is at the top of my Christmas list... She is one of the best artists in today's music scene. If more people knew about her, she'd be crazy popular, because she has that 60's/70's sound to her music.

Brooke's voice is beautiful, better than other famous singers.

This is also my favorites on her album. I don't understand why we can't have a little more music like this on the radio. This is all her vocal no auto tune, real meaning, great melody, and only 7 thousand views? While Niki Minaj Stupid Hoe and Justin Bieber Boyfriend, Kesha Tik Tok, Katy Perry ( I do like Katy too ) Last Friday Night all have millions of views but no depth or real meaning to them

This song is so nice. :)

I have been a crazy huge fan of Brooke White since she was on American Idol.  I wish that she received radio play.  Her voice is so distinctive and pure and I love her style of music.
