The lyrics of Brookes Brothers's song Tear You Down describe a toxic relationship where the singer's significant other constantly belittles and brings them down. Despite the partner's hurtful words, the singer still stands by them and tries to lift them up. The repetition of "She tears you down, when I pick you up" throughout the song emphasizes the contrast between how the partner treats the singer versus how they treat them.
The use of "darlin'" throughout the song also adds a layer of affection and care, despite the toxic nature of the relationship. It can be interpreted as the singer hoping their love for their partner can overcome the negativity and hurt.
