Come Home
Brown Findlay Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Maybe I'm wrong
Amputate sympathy
The strength of my tongue
Has taken that liberty

How do I feel?
Glorifed refugee
Nobody ever says goodbye
But I don't mind
Just come home

Played by ear
Play devil's advocate
Whatever I fear
Pay for it afterwards

How do I feel?
Glorifed refugee
Nobody ever says goodbye
But I don't mind
Just come home
Come home
Come home

Do I want it?
Please come home
Do I need it?
Please come home
Do I want it?
Please come home
Come on home

Come home

Come home
Come home

Overall Meaning

In the song "Come Home," Brown Findlay describes the feeling of being alone and longing for someone to come back to them. In the opening lines of the chorus, the singer acknowledges the possibility of being wrong but then immediately dismisses any further feelings of sympathy, choosing instead to amputate them in favour of the strength of their tongue. The lyricist has used the metaphor of cutting off a limb to emphasise the point that they'd rather be strong and resilient than emotional.

The second verse starts with the singer acknowledging the fear they have inside them and how they tend to play devil's advocate in situations in order to deal with it. The fear that they experience is not something they hide from or try to suppress, instead, they pay for it later. This could mean that they believe in confronting their issues head-on and instead of ignoring them, they choose to deal with them later.

Throughout the song, there is a recurring theme of a "glorified refugee" who seeks comfort in the idea of coming home. There is a sense of acceptance that nobody ever says goodbye and that this doesn't bother them. They just want the person to come home to them. The song conveys the idea that home provides a sense of safety, security, and comfort.

When listening to this song, I immediately get a vision of bright blue summer sky in sunset while laying on the grass and watching airplanes pass by. It just brings some melancholy in me. I love this song.
