After All
Bruce Ed Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

There's a parking lot where the corner cafe stood
One of the places we first fell in love
They've built a waterslide on the bluff by the riverside
Where we first fumbled our way into love
And you hardly ever hear it it's a golden oldie now
But you and I danced to it at least a thousand miles
We ran with Bobby and his wife her name I can't recall
We had lots of fun and love hardly anything else at all
The things we knew are turning brown and gray with age or gone
It's funny how the years slip by I can't help but wonder why
Sometimes it doesn't seem that long
After all these years after all the joys and tears
After all is said and done after most of everything we knew is gone
I still love you

After all these years...
After all

Overall Meaning

these years, Bruce Ed's song "After All" talks about the memories that two people shared together in a specific location. The lyrics mention a parking lot that serves as a reminder of where their love began. However, instead of the corner cafe that was once present in that spot, it has been replaced by a waterslide. The waterslide represents the passage of time and how things can change. The location of the waterslide itself is symbolic of the river that flowed by it, where the two lovers had their first intimate moments together. The lyrics provide a nostalgic feeling of looking back in time and reminiscing about the past while acknowledging how much has changed.

The lyrics also mention a song that is now considered a "golden oldie" and how the couple would dance to it together. The chorus repeats the phrase "after all," which serves as a reflective statement about the many things that have occurred in their lives. The couple has experienced joys and tears, and while much of what they once knew may be gone, they still have each other. The song highlights the passage of time and how memories can fade away, but true love endures.

The best country song Ed Bruce ever recorded and should have been a huge #1 Billboard country smash back in 1983. Did hit #4, which was a major hit. Mane, this song brings chills all over!!!

@BestClassicCountryMusicHard to believe Ed Bruce scored only one #1 Billboard country hit with "You're the Best Break This Old Heart Ever Had." This powerful ballad, "Ever Never Loving You", "You Turn Me On Like A Radio", "Nights", and "My First Taste Of Texas" should have all hit #1 on Billboard as well.

nemesisgenius

I agree. At least a week at #1 on the Billboard country singles chart and 3 weeks on top on
radio & records. Country music song and single of the year as well. 1983. Peaked at #4 on Billboard and #2 on Radio &
records
