In 1973, Springsteen released his first two albums, Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. and The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle, neither of which earned him a large audience. He changed his style and reached worldwide popularity with Born to Run in 1975. It was followed by Darkness on the Edge of Town (1978) and The River (1980), which topped the US Billboard 200 chart. After the solo recording, Nebraska (1982), he reunited with the E Street Band for Born in the U.S.A. (1984), his most commercially successful album and one of the best-selling albums of all time. Seven of its singles reached the Top Ten of the Billboard Hot 100, including the title track. Springsteen recorded his next three albums, Tunnel of Love (1987), Human Touch (1992), and Lucky Town (1992) using mostly session musicians. He reassembled the E Street Band for 1995's Greatest Hits, then recorded the sparse acoustic The Ghost of Tom Joad, followed by the EP Blood Brothers (1996), his last release of the decade.
Springsteen dedicated his 2002 album The Rising to the victims of the September 11 attacks. He released two more folk albums, Devils & Dust (2005) and We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions (2006), followed by two more albums with the E Street Band: Magic (2007) and Working on a Dream (2009). The next two, Wrecking Ball (2012) and High Hopes (2014), topped album charts worldwide. His latest releases include the solo Western Stars (2019), the E Street Band-featuring Letter to You (2020) and a solo cover album Only the Strong Survive (2022). When Letter to You went to No.2 in the US, Springsteen became the first artist to score a Top Five hit across six consecutive decades.
Among the album era's prominent acts, Springsteen has sold more than 140 million records worldwide and more than 71 million in the United States, making him one of the world's best-selling music artists. He has earned numerous awards for his work, including 20 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes, an Academy Award, and a Special Tony Award (for Springsteen on Broadway). Springsteen was inducted into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999, received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2009, named MusiCares person of the year in 2013, and awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama in 2016. He ranked 23rd on Rolling Stone's list of the Greatest Artists of All Time, which described him as being "the embodiment of rock & roll".

Screaming slow me down before the new year dies
It won't take much to kill a lovin' smile
And every mother with a baby cryin in her arms singin
Give me help, give me strength
Give a soul a night of fearless sleep
Give me love, give me peace
Don't you know these days you pay for everything
I got high hopes
Got high hopes
I got high hopes
Coming from the city, coming from the wild
I see a breathless army breaking like a cloud
They're gonna smother love, they're gonna shoot your hopes
Before the meek inherit they'll learn to hate themselves
Give me help, give me strength
Give a soul a night of fearless sleep
Give me love, give me peace
Don't you know these days you pay for everything
Got high hopes
I got high hopes
I got high hopes
I got high hopes
Give me help, give me strength
Give a soul a night of fearless sleep
Give me love, give me peace
Don't you know these days you pay for everything
Got high hopes
Got high hopes
I got high hopes
Got high hopes
Tell me someone now, what's the price
I wanna buy some time and maybe live my life
I wanna have a wife, I wanna have some kids
I wanna look in their eyes and know they'll stand a chance
Give me help, give me strength
Give a soul a night of fearless sleep
Give me love, give me peace
Don't you know these days you pay for everything
Got high hopes
Got high hopes
I got high hopes
Got high hopes
Got high hopes
I got high hopes
I got high hopes
I got high hopes
In Bruce Springsteen's song "High Hopes," he sings about the struggle to hold onto hope and love in a world that seems to constantly try to tear it away. The lyrics depict the relentlessness of life, from "Monday morning runs to Sunday night" to the ever-present fact that "these days you pay for everything." The repeated plea to "give me help, give me strength / Give a soul a night of fearless sleep / Give me love, give me peace" highlights the need for support and refuge in the midst of the chaos of daily life.
The song also touches on societal issues such as the tendency to "smother love" and "learn to hate" in a world that can be harsh and unforgiving. The desire for a better future is expressed through the lines "I wanna have a wife, I wanna have some kids / I wanna look in their eyes and know they'll stand a chance," demonstrating the longing for a sense of security and stability in a world that often feels anything but.
Overall, "High Hopes" is a powerful anthem that speaks to the universal human experience of striving to hold onto hope and love in the face of adversity.

THE LONG ROAD...TERRANCE HILL
The sunlight approaches,
But the blinds are drawn
The wars are still raging
Yea, it’s a long road
A sad, sad story
About a country gone wrong
The losing is hard
These tears an endless stream
In a river running past us
This is an American dream
[Chorus]
It’s not just this moment
A part of the plan
Not what’s envisioned
It’s a long time,
A long, long time
It’s a long road
The losses are hard,
The longing unknown,
The future uncertain
On that long road
Late at night
The stars shining against the vast and endless sky,
Remind us all why, we’re on this long road,
Here among the laughter and dancing
On the long road
It’s hard to carry such a heavy load
There is a reminder with each word and step
Time is long, and the healing, is coming
From down that long road……
[Chorus]

Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun
Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway
Do they still meet there by the Cut
There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before times took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
When friends surrounded
The nights of wonder
Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some inner tide
At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world
Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There's a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we've been so many times
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river
Forever and ever

We've got high hopes. Powerful song, and wonderful Bruce continues to include lyrics in his videos.
@EdmonScott
It is amazing how Bruce Springsteen is 64 years old and remains so prolific. Veterans in his peer group usually make an album every 10 years.
