Jersey Girl
Bruce Springsteen Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I got no time for the corner boys
Down in the street making all that noise
Or the girls out on the avenue
'Cause tonight I want to be with you

Tonight I'm gonna take that ride
Across the river to the Jersey side
Take my baby to the carnival
And I'll take her on all the rides

'Cause down the shore everything's all right
You and your baby on a Saturday night
You know all my dreams come true
When I'm walking down the street with you

Sha la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la
Sha la la la I'm in love with a Jersey girl

You know she thrills me with all her charms
When I'm wrapped up in my baby's arms
My little girl gives me everything
I know that some day she'll wear my ring

So don't bother me man I ain't got no time
I'm on my way to see that girl of mine
'Cause nothing matters in this whole wide world
When you're in love with a Jersey girl

Sha la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la
Sha la la la I'm in love with a Jersey girl

I see you on the street and you look so tired
I know that job you got leaves you so uninspired
When I come by to take you out to eat
you're lyin' all dressed up on the bed baby fast asleep

Go in the bathroom and put your makeup on
We're gonna take that little brat of yours and drop her off at your mom?s
I know a place where the dancing?s free
Now baby won't you come with me

'Cause down the shore everything's all right
You and your baby on a Saturday night

Nothing matters in this whole wide world
When you're in love with a Jersey girl

My dad was a the biggest Springsteen fan there was. He passed away a couple months ago. I’m only 23 but I come back to hear this almost every night. Makes me think of him. Love you dad.

@FranBro

So very sorry to hear. Mine passed over 20 years and it still hurts at times.

Hang in there... and think fondly when your hear or see the things that remind you how lucky you've been to have a Dad like that.. he's looking down on you, smiling..

If your Dad liked the boss, he must have been a great guy.

So sorry for your loss. My dad was a Johnny Cash fan. He passed away when I was 30 eight months after my mother. But just remember you have an angel. I was daddy's little girl, I am also a Jersey girl! I have seen Bruce in passing. He lives a couple towns away from me.I saw Bruce in concert in the 1980's, he was so amazing. He goes to the bars in Asbury Park and buys drinks for everyone. He did a photo shoot in Asbury Park with one of his cars. Outside the old carousel it made the local paper. He's very cool.

This song has so many memories for me. My mother loved Bruce Springsteen, and this was one of her favorite songs. She used to joke that this song was written for her because she was from New Jersey. Our dog is even named Jersey Girl :) . Anyway, my mother passed away about a year and a half ago, and this Bruce Springsteen song is one of my connections to her. Thank you for posting this beautiful song.

@petemarch7225
