Well, shake it up, baby, now
(shake it up, baby)
Twist and shout (twist and shout)
C'mon c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, baby, now
(come on baby)
Come on and work it on out (work it on out)

Well, work it on out, honey (work it on out)
You know you look so good (look so good)
You know you got me goin', now (got me goin')
Just like i knew you would
(like i knew you would)

Well, shake it up, baby, now
(shake it up, baby)
Twist and shout (twist and shout)
C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, baby, now
(come on baby)
Come on and work it on out (work it on out)

You know you twist your little girl
(twist, little girl)
You know you twist so fine (twist so fine)
Come on and twist a little closer, now
(twist a little closer)
And let me know that you're mine
(let me know you're mine)

Well, shake it up, baby, now
(shake it up, baby)
Twist and shout (twist and shout)
C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, baby, now
(come on baby)
Come on and work it on out (work it on out)

You know you twist your little girl
(twist, little girl)
You know you twist so fine (twist so fine)
Come on and twist a little closer, now
(twist a little closer)
And let me know that you're mine
(let me know you're mine)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Twist and Shout" are quite simple and straightforward. They are essentially an invitation to a girl to dance and have a good time. The first verse encourages her to shake it up and twist and shout, while the second verse highlights how good she looks and how she's got the singer going just like he knew she would. The chorus repeats the invitation to twist and shout and work it on out, while the bridge has the singer expressing his amazement and desire for the girl. The song is all about enjoying the moment and letting your body move to the music.

One interesting thing to note about "Twist and Shout" is that it was actually a cover of a song released by The Top Notes in 1961. The Beatles famously covered the song in 1963 and it became a hit both in the UK and the US. Bruce Springsteen also covered the song several times in live performances. Another interesting fact is that the Beatles' version of the song was famously used in the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off during the iconic parade scene. Additionally, "Twist and Shout" was the final song the Beatles played at their last live performance at Candlestick Park in San Francisco in 1966.

I was there!!!!!! Buenos Aires, Argentina 1988. Amnesty Tour. This was the final show. Bruce, along with Peter Gabriel, Sting, Youssou N'Dour (and others) managed to awake the crowd. Keep in mind that this was a 12-hour festival and most of us were exhausted, but the BOSS blew our minds!!!!!!!
