In 1973, Springsteen released his first two albums, Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. and The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle, neither of which earned him a large audience. He changed his style and reached worldwide popularity with Born to Run in 1975. It was followed by Darkness on the Edge of Town (1978) and The River (1980), which topped the US Billboard 200 chart. After the solo recording, Nebraska (1982), he reunited with the E Street Band for Born in the U.S.A. (1984), his most commercially successful album and one of the best-selling albums of all time. Seven of its singles reached the Top Ten of the Billboard Hot 100, including the title track. Springsteen recorded his next three albums, Tunnel of Love (1987), Human Touch (1992), and Lucky Town (1992) using mostly session musicians. He reassembled the E Street Band for 1995's Greatest Hits, then recorded the sparse acoustic The Ghost of Tom Joad, followed by the EP Blood Brothers (1996), his last release of the decade.
Springsteen dedicated his 2002 album The Rising to the victims of the September 11 attacks. He released two more folk albums, Devils & Dust (2005) and We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions (2006), followed by two more albums with the E Street Band: Magic (2007) and Working on a Dream (2009). The next two, Wrecking Ball (2012) and High Hopes (2014), topped album charts worldwide. His latest releases include the solo Western Stars (2019), the E Street Band-featuring Letter to You (2020) and a solo cover album Only the Strong Survive (2022). When Letter to You went to No.2 in the US, Springsteen became the first artist to score a Top Five hit across six consecutive decades.
Among the album era's prominent acts, Springsteen has sold more than 140 million records worldwide and more than 71 million in the United States, making him one of the world's best-selling music artists. He has earned numerous awards for his work, including 20 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes, an Academy Award, and a Special Tony Award (for Springsteen on Broadway). Springsteen was inducted into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999, received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2009, named MusiCares person of the year in 2013, and awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama in 2016. He ranked 23rd on Rolling Stone's list of the Greatest Artists of All Time, which described him as being "the embodiment of rock & roll".

all i need
Bruce Springsteen Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Of money to spend
Some men need power to hold over other men
But not me baby, girl you can believe
I'm telling you my darling
You're, you're all I need
You're, you're all I need
In this world, girl
Some men need fine clothes, big diamond rings
To feel like somebody some
Men need expensive things
But I feel like somebody, girl
Every time you look at me
I don't need nothing to remind me that
You're, you're all I need
You're, you're all I need
You're, you're all I need
In this world, girl
Some men need a fine home on a far hillside
Some men need a big car to
Show off as they ride
Some men need a pretty woman just
To walk by their side
And some men need to see the
Fear in another man's eyes
But all I need baby, is all I can see
When you wrap your loving arms around me
You're, you're all I need
You're, you're all I need
You're, you're all I need
You're, you're all I need
In this world, girl
The lyrics to Bruce Springsteen's song "All I Need" paint a picture of various scenes and characters, but ultimately convey the intense focus and obsession of the singer on a particular person. The song opens with a blind man waving by the side of the road, while the singer is in a flatbed Ford carrying a heavy load. The scene is set on a flat black highway in Carolina with a blackbird slipping in a sky of blue. The singer's attention is drawn away from these sights by thoughts of his lover, with whom he is sharing a sweet blueberry wine. The chorus repeats the refrain "All I'm thinkin' about is you," emphasizing the singer's all-consuming fixation.
The second verse continues to describe idyllic scenes of childhood, with a little boy carrying a fishing pole and a little girl picking berries. But even with these distractions, the singer's thoughts remain on his lover, with her sweet brown legs causing him to feel blue. The third verse shifts to a more adult scene, with a black car shining on a Sunday morning while Mama goes to church and Daddy is going downtown. Here, the singer acknowledges that nobody understands the intensity of his relationship with his lover, which continues to consume his thoughts.
Finally, the song ends with a surreal and somewhat ominous image of a field being turned up and the seed being sowed, while rain comes in from over the road and a big black curtain comes across the field. The singer darkly notes that the blind will see and the lame will be healed, before admitting that he has turned his back on his brown-eyed girl and is now alone with his thoughts.
Overall, "All I Need" is a song about obsession and the way in which it can consume a person's thoughts and attention, even in the midst of mundane or idyllic scenes. The focus on the singer's lover is absolute, to the exclusion of any other distractions.

Said you'd give me just a little kiss
And you'd rock me for a little while
Well you'd slip me just a piece of it
Listen up little child
I want it all or nothin' at all
I want it all or nothin' at all
Said you'd take me for a little dance
If you had a little time on your hands
Well all I do is push and shove
Just to get a little piece of your love
I want it all or nothin' at all
I want it all or nothin' at all
Well now I don't want to be greedy
But when it comes to love there ain't no doubt
You just ain't gonna get what you want
With one foot in and one foot out
You got to give it all or nothin' at all
All or nothin' at all
Now I only got a little time
So if you're gonna change your mind
Then shout out what you're thinking of
If what you're thinkin' of is love
I want it all or nothin' at all
I want it all or nothin' at all
