They then started to talk, and once he was starting to get really interested in her, the girl’s train arrives and she has to go, leaving Bruno with just a memory of her, knowing only she was Somewhere in Brooklyn; he then starts searching everywhere, looking for his ‘Brooklyn girl’, asking people if they saw or ever heard of her, sadly with no luck.
Later he comes back at the train station hoping to find her there, but unfortunately she is nowhere to be found.
Bruno revealed that he dedicated this song to his father during an interview with Rap-Up:
My dad is originally from Brooklyn, I think that everyone can agree that New York is a special place, so one song is called "Somewhere in Brooklyn". The premise of that song is that she’s somewhere in Brooklyn and I’m gonna find her.
Somewhere in Brooklyn

Twenty one years old
I lost her in the cold
It's unfair, she's out there
Somewhere, somewhere, somewhere in Brooklyn
She's somewhere, somewhere, somewhere in Brooklyn
Red Nike high tops listening to hip-hop
While we were waiting started conversating
Before I got her name along came a train
(uh) next stop Brooklyn
(uh) now I'm lookin'
She was covered in leather and gold
Twenty one years old
I lost her in the cold
It's unfair, she's out there
Somewhere, somewhere, somewhere in Brooklyn
She's somewhere, somewhere, somewhere in Brooklyn
On the street kickin' rocks circling the same block
Green farm flat bush checking every corner shop
Tappin' people's shoulders askin' if they know her
Everyday's the same back to the train
(uh) next stop Brooklyn
(uh) I'm still lookin'
She was covered in leather and gold
Twenty one years old
I lost her in the cold
It's unfair, she's out there
Somewhere, somewhere, somewhere in Brooklyn
She's somewhere, somewhere, somewhere in Brooklyn
Oh-oh-oh-oh
I wonder if we'll ever meet again
Oh-oh-oh-oh
I wonder we we'll ever meet again
Yeah I wonder if we'll meet again
I hope we do somewhere in Brooklyn
The lyrics to "Somewhere in Brooklyn" by Bruno Mars tell the story of a young man who falls in love with a girl he meets at a train stop in Brooklyn. Despite having only had a brief conversation with her, he is captivated by her and spends his days searching for her on the same block and asking strangers if they know her. The lyrics are full of longing and hope that they will meet again, with the repeated refrain of "somewhere, somewhere, somewhere in Brooklyn" underscoring his determination to find her.
The opening line, "She was covered in leather and gold," immediately sets a tone of mystery and intrigue. The girl is described in a way that makes her seem exotic and glamorous, and the use of the word "lost" when the singer admits he can't find her creates a sense of urgency and desperation. The song's structure, with its repeated verses and refrains, reinforces the idea that the singer is stuck in a loop of searching and hoping.
Overall, "Somewhere in Brooklyn" is a romantic and nostalgic tribute to a lost love. Its depiction of a young couple brought together by chance and then separated by circumstance is a common theme in pop music, but Bruno Mars injects it with his signature charm and sincerity.
