It Gets Better

Closer to the love of my life
it gets better
It gets better
Closer to the love of my life
it gets better
The love of God is sneakin' up on me
Closer he gets
Closer I want to be
It gets better closer to the love of my life
So never mind all the trouble I've seen
Just caught a vision on a trampoline
Tell everybody I'm takin' the highest road home
It gets better
Closer to the love of my life
It gets better
It gets better
Closer to the love of my life
It gets better
Once you've found the best thing in life is still free
There's no place else to go for me
It gets better
Closer to the love of my life
It gets better
It gets better
Closer to the love of my life
It gets better
One step further, never back
Am I there yet?
No, but I'm happy where I'm at
Just gets better closer to the love of my life
It gets better
Closer to the love of my life
It gets better
It gets better
Closer to the love of my life
It gets better
The song It Gets Better by Bryan Duncan is an optimistic ballad about how life gets better as we draw closer to the love of our lives. The repeated lines of "It gets better/Closer to the love of my life" emphasize the theme of improvement and progression. Duncan explains that the love of God is gradually creeping up on him, and he wants to be closer to God's love. The lyrics portray a belief that faith in love and God can help overcome obstacles in life.
The verse "Never mind all the trouble I've seen/Just caught a vision on a trampoline/Tell everybody I'm takin' the highest road home" can be interpreted as an attitude of looking beyond the trials of life and seeing the bigger picture. The singer is determined to take the higher road home, implying that he has chosen a better way of life. The song's overall message is that the love of God is a powerful force that brings us hope, happiness, and strength.

Although Bryan said he didn't write (It Gets Better) for a Birthday song, when a listener suggested it, he admitted it made a good song to celebrate a birthday or salvation anniversary.
