Consecrated, Lord, to thee
Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of thy love
At the impulse of thy love
Take my love, my God, I pour
At thy feet its treasure storeTake my life and I will be
Ever, only, all for thee
Ever, only, all for thee
In Bryan Duncan's song Take My Life and Let It Be, the lyrics are a prayerful surrender to God, offering oneself completely to Him for His purposes. The opening line expresses a willingness to give over one's life to God, to be set apart for holy use. The next line offers up one's hands, acknowledging that everything one does should be guided by God's love and not by personal ambition or agenda. The repetition of "at the impulse of thy love" reinforces the desire for God's will to be the driving force in one's actions.
The second verse begins with an outpouring of love for God, expressing a willingness to give all of one's heart and affection to Him. The final line of the song is a reiteration of the first, but with a subtle difference. Where the first verse speaks of consecration, the last line of the song uses the word "only" to indicate a completeness of surrender, a desire to be entirely consumed by God's will.
Overall, the song is a beautiful expression of complete surrender to God, a desire to be used by Him and for His will to be done above all else. It is a reminder to continually offer oneself to God and to allow His love to guide everything we do.
