Desire
Bryde Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Fools gold laid out on the floor
Pieces of the one I adore
Give me what I want, no I can't want some more
Song bird sat out on the wire
Don't ask me, don't make me a liar
Give me what I want, give me what I desire
We tie ourselves up and we tear ourselves down for desire
We paint our faces and we tear our hair out for desire, desire, desire
Smother everything
Blindfolded into the light
I'll leave you but it won't be tonight
Give me what I need, don't need it to be right
We tie ourselves up and we tear ourselves down for desire
We paint our faces and we tear our hair out for desire, desire, desire
Smother everything
Don't show me what I look
Bring yourself to me
We're never coming back
We tie ourselves up and we tear ourselves down for desire
We paint our faces and we tear our hair out for desire, desire, desire

We paint our faces and we tear our hair out for desire, desire, desire
Smother everything

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Bryde's song Desire seem to be about the destructive nature of desire and how it can lead us to do things that are both self-destructive and harmful to others. The opening line "Fool's gold laid out on the floor" sets the tone for the rest of the song, suggesting that what we desire is ultimately empty and worthless, like fool's gold. The next line, "Pieces of the one I adore," implies that the object of desire is a person, someone that the singer loves or admires. However, this person is reduced to mere pieces on the floor, perhaps suggesting that the singer has objectified them or that their relationship has been reduced to a collection of physical attributes.

The chorus repeats the idea that desire leads us to self-destructive behavior, with the lines "We tie ourselves up and we tear ourselves down for desire / We paint our faces and we tear our hair out for desire, desire, desire." The second verse continues to explore the negative consequences of desire, with the lines "Smother everything / Blindfolded into the light / I'll leave you but it won't be tonight / Give me what I need, don't need it to be right." Here, the singer seems to be acknowledging that her desire is leading her to smother everything else, including her own needs and those of the person she adores. She is willing to leave them, but only if she can get what she needs first.

Overall, the song seems to be an exploration of the dark side of desire, how it leads us to selfishness and destructive behavior. The repeated chorus emphasizes this point, suggesting that we are all susceptible to the lure of desire and that it can lead us down a dangerous path if we are not careful.

Like Broken Matt Hardy having to become just Matt Hardy again.... it's like watching Sarah Howells become Broken Bryde. Like the song, but if you're still writing the words to them it feels painful to know what was is becoming what is. All things change.

At least with every new song for your new genre, you're getting better and better at the new one. Still, I want you to know how much I miss the old you (performer, as I don't know you personally) because the world is so full of anguish that there has to be someone left who believes in love and hope and can convey the message like I used to feel you did. This transformation feels so fragile, broken, painful and vulnerable that I'm not sure that performer can exist anymore.
