Frozen Love
Buckingham Nicks Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You may not be as strong as me
And I may not care to teach you
It may be hard to keep up with me
But I'll always be able to reach you

And if you go forward, I'll meet you there
And if you climb up through the cold freezing air
Look down below you; search out above
And cry out to life for a frozen love

Life gave me you; the change was made
And there's no beginning over
You are not happy, but what is love?
Hate gave you me for a lover...

And if you go forward, I'll meet you there
And if you climb up through the cold freezing air

Look down below you; search out above
And cry out to life for a frozen love

Overall Meaning

The Buckingham Nicks song "Frozen Love" is a song about a difficult relationship that is struggling to stay together, but the two people involved seem to have a strong connection that keeps them from separating completely. The first verse is about the differences between the two people, with one being stronger than the other and not caring to teach the other, but promising to always be able to reach them. Despite the difficulties, they will always find a way to be together. The second verse is more introspective, with the singer reflecting on how their life has changed since meeting their partner, and how there is no going back to the way things were before. Even if they are not currently happy, they are somehow still drawn to each other. The chorus is a call to persevere through the difficulties and cry out to life for a frozen love, a love that will endure even in the harshest of circumstances.

The lyrics in this song are beautifully poetic and full of metaphorical language that takes some time to unravel. The idea of a frozen love is intriguing, as it seems to suggest a kind of love that is strong and enduring, even in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Overall, "Frozen Love" is a haunting, emotional song that tells a powerful story of perseverance in the face of adversity.

Iā€™ve been listening to this album since I was little. Iā€™m in my 40s now and I still think itā€™s one of the most underrated masterpieces ever recorded, especially this song.

I was listening to this album in my 20's and I am 68!!! Not sure why this album was not well received...they say. I loved it then and I still love it now.

@@sueb.8738 Iā€™m not sure either. The production quality isnā€™t great but the songs really showcase their talents, a foreshadowing of the superstars they became. For a debut album of 2 unknown artists, it doesnā€™t get much better.

@@sueb.8738 I've heard Stevie and Lindsey say over years that polydor didn't want to put any money or effort into them. The execs didn't think they were financially viable. They were obviously idiots. They also wouldn't come off the masters. I'm not sure if this is true but I read somewhere that the original masters were lost or destroyed.

I bought this album, the first time in 75. LITERALLY WORE IT OUT TWICE. So now have my third one. The cool thing is, I was a HUUUUGE fan of Fleetwood Mac BEFORE, I heard of Stevie and Lindsay. You are correct Jennifer, especially mixing in the woodwinds. NO ONE did that in this genre back then. Brilliant!

@rebeccavaughn5100

You are soooo right! I saw them perform it in 1973 when they were Buckingham-Nicks and we knew they were going to be BIG!
