Long Distance Winner
Buckingham Nicks Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You love only the tallest trees
I come running down the hill
But you're fast -
You're the winner
Long distance winner
Not unlike the blue white fire
I bring the water down to you
But you're too hot to touch
You're too hot - to touch
Love somebody
Save their soul
Tie them to your heaven
Erase their hell
Save their lifestyle - if you feel it
Don't try to change them
You never will
Sunflowers and your face fascinate me
You go into the dusty pink day
I come calling unto you
But you run
You're the winner
Long distance winner
The song Long Distance Winner by Buckingham Nicks is a love song that highlights the struggle between two people in love. The lyrics start with the singer being captivated by the beauty of sunflowers, and the face of their lover. They illustrate how their lover only prefers the tallest trees which seems to be a metaphor for the high expectations the lover has for whom they love. The singer then describes how they come down the hill trying to catch up with their lover, but they are too fast and already the winner.
The second verse compares the lover to a blue white fire, which means the love is passionate and intense. The singer acknowledges the passion and brings water to their lover who is too hot to touch. It is also interesting how the singer advises their lover that they cannot change the person they love, but can only save their soul and lifestyle if they feel it's necessary. The song ends with the singer calling out to their lover as they disappear into the dusty pink day. It portrays the struggle of being in love with someone who seems to always be the winner in the relationship, despite their efforts.

Buckingham is rally underrated as a guitarist. Nicks sounds like an angel at this age.

Why has this album never been re released on CD or digitally? Absolute gem, and superior to their Fleetwood mac debut, in my opinion. Should have been massive..
