Talking In Your Sleep
Bucks Fizz Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When you close your eyes and go to sleep
And it's down to the sound of a heartbeat
I can hear the things that you're dreaming about
When you open up your heart and the truth comes out

You tell me that you want me
You tell me that you need me
You tell me that you love me
And I know that I'm right
Cuz I hear it in the night
I hear the secrets that you keep
When you're talking in your sleep

When I hold you in my arms at night
Don't you know you're sleeping in a spotlight
And all your dreams that you keep inside
You're telling me the secrets that you just can't hide

You tell me that you want me
You tell me that you need me
You tell me that you love me
And I know that I'm right
Cuz I hear it in the night
I hear the secrets that you keep
When you're talking in your sleep

When you close your eyes and you fall asleep
Everythng about you is a mystery

You tell me that you want me
You tell me that you need me
You tell me that you love me
And I know that I'm right
Cuz I hear it in the night

I hear the secrets that you keep
When you're talking in your sleep

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Bucks Fizz's "Talking In Your Sleep" appear to be about a lover who is able to uncover their partner's innermost thoughts and desires while they sleep. The opening lines "When you close your eyes and go to sleep/ And it's down to the sound of a heartbeat" evokes a sense of intimacy and vulnerability. The singer is able to hear what their partner is dreaming about and when they open up their heart, the truth comes out. This suggests that the singer has a deep understanding of their partner and is able to discern their true feelings.

The chorus of the song is repetitive, with the singer repeating that their partner wants, needs, and loves them. The line "Don't you know you're sleeping in a spotlight" adds a sense of intensity to the lyrics, suggesting that the singer is deeply invested in their relationship and is paying close attention to their partner's every move, even while they sleep. The final verse reiterates the mystery of their partner. The singer is able to hear the secrets they keep when they're talking in their sleep, but there's still a sense of enigma surrounding their lover.

Overall, the lyrics to "Talking in Your Sleep" are romantic and somewhat voyeuristic. They suggest that the singer is deeply connected to their partner and is able to uncover their deepest desires, even when they're not conscious. The song speaks to the power of intimacy and the ways in which we become vulnerable when we're asleep.

They were influenced by 1950s American rock and roll and 1960s North American garage rock as well as British Invasion music

Bucks Fizz is a British pop group which achieved success in the 1980s, most notably for winning the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Making Your Mind Up". The group was formed in January 1981 specifically for the contest and comprised four vocalists: Bobby G, Cheryl Baker, Mike Nolan and Jay Aston. They achieved instant attention with the dance routine which accompanied the song, involving a skirt-rip. The group went on to have a successful career around the world (albeit ignored in the United States), while the UK remained their biggest market, where they had three No.1 singles with "Making Your Mind Up" (1981), "The Land of Make Believe" (1981) and "My Camera Never Lies" (1982) and became one of the top-selling groups of the 1980s. They also had UK Top 10 hits with "Now Those Days Are Gone", "If You Can't Stand the Heat", "When We Were Young" and "New Beginning (Mamba Seyra)". Their worldwide record sales have exceeded 15 million.

What I loved is that all four members took the lead and every one could hold their own as a lead

@ZanduckTV2 yeah Cheryl, for me, was the best, loved going and seeing them in concert...the new years/christmas ones were the best

ZanduckTV2

A gig review in their heyday described Cheryl’s voice as sweet as honey, Bobby’s as rough and hard hitting, Mike’s as ranging from choral to raunchy, and Jay’s as biting and sexy!

Nice version, well produced. And you've got to love the video. Not easy for the lead vocal to look edgy when he's drinking milk rather than Jack Daniels and he's sharing screen time with a bouncing dwarf dressed as a baby, and 3 group members wondering what the hell's going on. So bad it's good,in a glorious 80's type way.

Sebastian Welcome

ture better than some of today's rubbish all of the fizz tunes are classic tunes now in 21st century
