Prior to their eponymous 2001 album, each had made appearances on the other's solo recordings, but this disc marked their first official release as a duo. The album is described as more rock-based than their earlier solo traditional-folk recordings. The majority of the songs were penned by Julie Miller and rounded out by the duo's co-written "Dirty Water" and covers of songs by folk-rock icons Richard Thompson, Utah Phillips and Bob Dylan. The album was named "Album of the Year" at the first annual awards of the Americana Music Association.
Since then, the duo has released "Love Snuck Up" (2004) and "Written in Chalk" (2009).

#refreshing ....So nice to listen to an artist not tryin to sound like anything other than what she is....which is so refreshingly original...One is compelled to listen to her vocals BECAUSE her heart written vocals are triggered by the stirring conviction of her hand written lyrics...#truth....It simmers....It rolls.....then it boils....Til there is nothin left but a SEARING SLOW BURN !!! Two thumbs up for Julie Miller, and screw the nay-sayers!! She has that same kind of edge that I dig about Lucinda..Its pure, beautifully unpolished, & authentic....Instrumentally speaking, this song reminds me of the Raising Sands album with Robert Plant and Alison Krauss

Got the album and LOVE it. Julie is a fantastic writer. I LOVE her imagery. The scenes open up and you walk right into and through them. I can not help but love her little girl, wounded sparrow, voice. Buddy is the perfect guitar player for their duo. There are Incredible textures and earthiness in his, one of a kind, guitar playing. Thank you for finally doing this album. I was waiting for a long time. Here's to many more. Thank You, Buddy and Julie!
