Guy is known for his showmanship; for example, he plays with drumsticks and walks into the audience whilst playing, the latter being a gimmick he picked up from a local blues guitarist at an early age (joining or leaping into the audience has also long been common in both American popular and gospel music, as in the earlier work of Big Jay McNeely or the Dixie Hummingbirds).
Guy grew up in Louisiana where he learned to play guitar. In the early 1950s he began performing with bands in Baton Rouge. Soon after moving to Chicago in 1957, Guy fell under the influence of "Mighty" Muddy Waters. In 1958 he won a record contract with Artistic Records after beating the West Side guitarists Magic Sam and Otis Rush in a "Head Cutting Contest" at the Blue Flame Club. Soon afterwards he recorded for the Cobra label.
In the early 1960s, Guy was a session guitarist for Chess Records. He recorded on Junior Wells sessions for Delmark Records under the pseudonym Friendly Chap in 1965 and 1966. His career took off during a blues revival period in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and was sparked by Eric Clapton's request that Guy be part of the '24 nights' all-star blues guitar lineup at London's Royal Albert Hall and Guy's subsequent signing with Silvertone Records.
I've Got My Eyes on You
Buddy Guy Lyrics

You got my nose open baby
Ah huh
You got my nose open woman
But, I got my eyes on you
You got me weepin' and moanin'
Got me weepin' and moanin'
You got me weepin' and moanin' woman
But I got my eyes on you, look a here
Got my nose open baby
You got my nose open woman
Uh, oh, yeah yeah
Got my nose open baby
But I, I got my eyes on you
In Buddy Guy's "I've Got My Eyes On You," the singer describes being infatuated with someone who has captured his attention. The first line, "Got my nose open baby," is a slang phrase that means being infatuated or enamored with someone. However, he acknowledges that he still has his wits about him, saying "But, I got my eyes on you." This phrase suggests that even though he is entranced by the woman, he is still aware of what is happening around him and is not willing to lose sight of reality.
The second verse continues to describe the singer's emotional state. He is weeping and moaning, unable to control his feelings. He acknowledges that the woman has a hold on him, saying "You got me weepin' and moanin' woman." Once again, he reminds himself that he must maintain a sense of perspective, saying "But I got my eyes on you."
Overall, the song conveys a sense of tension between the singer's longing for the woman and his need to stay grounded in reality. The repetition of the phrase "I got my eyes on you" reinforces this tension and suggests that the singer is aware of the potential risks of giving into his emotions completely.
