It Doesn't Matter Anymore
by Buddy Holly

There you go and baby here am I
Well you left me here so I could sit and cry
Well, golly gee what have you done to me
Well I guess it doesn't matter anymore

Do you remember baby, last September
How you held me tight, each and every night
Well oops-a-daisy, how you drove me crazy
But I guess it doesn't matter anymore

There's no use in me a-cryin'
I've done everything and now I'm sick of trying
I've thrown away my nights and wasted all my days over you

Well you go your way and I'll go mine
Now and forever 'till the end of time
I'll find somebody new and baby
We'll say we're through and you won't matter anymore

There's no use in me a-cryin'
I've done everything and now I'm sick of trying
I've thrown away my nights and wasted all my days over you

Now you go your way baby and I'll go mine
Now and forever 'till the end of time
I'll find somebody new and baby
We'll say we're through and you won't matter anymore
You won't matter anymore

Similar to Mozart. Made his indelible mark on Western music in a shockingly-short time and then left us with his legacy. A master!

David IOW

One of the greatest songs ever recorded and by the greatest singer ever.

David, my sentiments exactly.

Listening in 2020 at the age of 13 just shows that the classics are the best.

It's been 59 years since we lost Buddy....almost 6 decades, and so many singers and groups have come and gone...many great and amazing. But to this day, Buddy Holly IMO, was the very best of the bunch. In my mind, heart and soul, Buddy was the greatest of them all and still is today. I will always miss him, and for me February 3rd is a day I remember him and reflect on his life.

It is now just past 61 years (Feb. 22, 2020) his shocking death, along with J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, and Ritchie Valens. 'Rolling Stone' magazine ranked him #13 in its "100 Greatest Artists", but that low ranking is only because he only had 3 years in the business, after graduating high school in 1955! He wrote or performed over 50 songs, and if he had only lived to be 35 with that same production, he would have easily been ranked #1. His innovations, such as making the band consist of a standard two guitars, a bass, and drums, plus his rockabilly mixing of country and rock, and with his primitive overdubbing, double tracking, reverberation, changing chords and keys in mid-song, etc. that he would have perfected later, would have easily had him doing what The Beatles got credit for a decade later. The Beatles would have been imitating his advances in pop/rock music, giving him the title of #1. There has been nobody in pop music that has had so many pop admirers than Buddy Holly. The Beatles even created their name as homage to The Crickets, both insects (Beetles) but John said, "We are Beatles, with an 'a', to reflect the music beat, but with the same pronunciation as the insect. Let's celebrate Sep. 7 (1936) his birthday, along with remembering him on Feb. 3, 61 years ago.
