Think It Over
Buddy Holly & The Crickets Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Think it over what you just said
Think it over in your pretty little head
Are you sure that I'm not the one
Is your love real or only fun
You think it over, yes, think it over
A lonely heart grows cold and old

Think it over and let me know
Think it over but don't be slow
Just remember all birds and bees
Go by twos through life's mysteries
You think it over, yes, think it over
A lonely heart grows cold and old

Think it over and think of me
Think it over and you will see
A happy day when you and I
Think as one and kiss the blues goodbye
You think it over, yes, think it over
A lonely heart grows cold and old

Think it over, think it over

Overall Meaning

Buddy Holly's "Think It Over" is a classic rock and roll song from the 1950s that explores the nuances of young love. The lyrics express the confusion felt by someone who was possibly slighted by their lover. They urge them to reconsider the situation, to "Think it over what you just said" and "Think it over in your pretty little head." The singer begins to question whether they are truly loved by their partner or simply a brief moment of fun or infatuation. They urge their partner to think carefully about what they are feeling, to ponder whether their love is deep and true or merely a fleeting emotion.

As the song progresses, it takes on a more optimistic tone. The singer reminds their partner that "all birds and bees / go by twos through life's mysteries." True love is meant to be shared and cherished between two people who are together throughout the highs and lows of life. The song ends with the hope that the couple will reunite, "Think as one and kiss the blues goodbye," foreshadowing a bright and happy future.

Overall, "Think It Over" is a song that deals with themes of heartache and reconciliation, providing a snapshot of young love in the 1950s.

Definitely a top 10 or better.

@jimhilliker2450

Again, seems like some of these Buddy Holly songs should have scored higher.

@andrewornelas3033

Remember the larger portion of the record buying public were adults, also unlike what they show in the movies rock music was not prominent on radio.

@Kitandrox

@TheDejael

If Buddy Holly's name had been on the record label on the Brunswick label as it was on his Coral and Decca released, they would have sold more of them.
