Born Again
Buddy Mullins Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Do you or don't you want this to be your song?
It doesn't take a rebel to sing along
This art is weak in its pretty, pretty frame
And I'm your monkey with a misspelled name

"I'll put down your disco
And take your heart away
I'll put down your disco
And take your heart away"
I'll be born again

I'm someone else, I'm someone new
I'm someone stupid, just like you
I'm someone else, I'm someone new
I'm someone stupid, just like you

Do you don't you want to take this hit
Does it make you feel like a part of "it"
"And I'll put down your disco
And take your heart away
I'll put down your disco
And take your heart away"
I'll be born again

I'm someone else, I'm someone new
I'm someone stupid, just like you
I'm someone else, I'm someone new
I'm someone stupid, just like you
I'm someone else, I'm someone new
I'm someone stupid, just like you
I'm someone else, I'm someone new
I'm someone stupid, just like you

The valley of the dolls
Is the valley of the dead
The valley of the dolls
Is the valley of the dead

I'm someone else, I'm someone new
I'm someone stupid, just like you
I'm someone else, I'm someone new
I'm someone stupid, just like you
"I'll put down your disco
And take your heart away
I'll put down your disco
And take your heart away"
I'll be born again
I'll be born again

I'll be born again
I'll be born again

Overall Meaning

In the lyrics of Buddy Mullins's song Born Again, there is a sense of rebellion against the mainstream music that dominates the music industry. The first verse shows that the singer has decided to reject the grandeur of the music industry and choose a more minimalist approach to their music. The second verse shows that the singer does not want to conform to society's standards and be like everyone else. The repetition of "I'm someone else, I'm someone new, I'm someone stupid, just like you" suggests that the singer is trying to find a way to stand out from the crowd and be different.

The chorus of the song is a declaration of a new beginning, a reinvention of the self. The phrase "I'll be born again" suggests that the singer is trying to start fresh and come out as a new person with a new musical identity. The valley of the dolls mentioned in the last verse can be interpreted as the place where people go to conform and be like everyone else, while the singer is trying to go against the tide and be different.

The lyrics of Born Again show that the singer is trying to break away from the conformity of mainstream music and create something unique. The song can be interpreted as a call to embrace individuality and be true to oneself. It is an invitation to take a stand and create something new and fresh.

Buddy Mullins is one the most underrated singers in Gospel music

Daryl Tracy

@Jack Smith how is he overrated? He is barely talked about

Jack Smith

Buddy Mullins is a good guy, but he's definitely overrated.

Rosalie Dann

I love his voice

Michael Holman

Brian Eason He really does tend to get lost in the shuffle in regards to GVB personnel. He had to follow Michael English, and he was followed by Guy Penrod. He doesn't have quite the same range as English or Penrod, but he's just as good a singer as either one of those guys. Good call on your part.

Buddy can sing soul songs like nobodies business!

Diane Jackson

Shirley Gatlin

John Grytbakk

So good. But no one does this one better than Russ Taff :o)
