Hey there Dr. Bugbee. I really enjoyed watching several of your videos. This one in particular. I have been operating a legal cannabis business for 12 years. Most of this time I had growers doing the work that I could trust. I have paid close attention to them and how they work with the plants. I am finding less and less employees that really know what they are doing so I have taken a lead role in my gardens currently. I do a lot of what you say but one thing that stood out to me is: I have been taught to increase nitrogen in veg and decrease it in flower and so the numbers of my NPK's would differ in each stage Do you suggest feeding it the same nutrients all the way from veg through flower?

Hello guys, when pushing the plant to is maximum yields as per the advice in the video, lowering the nitrogen in flowering will lower the EC or Ppm of the feed allowing you to push more of the phosphorus and potassium it requires for producing buds, nitrogen is in high demand in the vegetative stage but can be lowered in flower to push for maximum yields as it's not used so much for budding

Hi Dr. Bruce Been using most of these these techniques for a few decades with great success.We have grown monsters in 3 gallon pots but they require watering once to twice a day. I feel that it is the oxygen to the roots from drying out so quickly that really excels the performance of the plant along with the other parameters,the same idea on an ebb and flow table. Love the way you put everything in layman's terms. You are a great teacher. Thank you.

No. 100 gallon? That's absurd. Even if you meant 10. And those fabric pots are overrated pieces of shit. I threw them all away because they were worthless and I bought 3 gallon molded plastic pots, because the molded plastic pots last for years and years and you don't need some crap fabric pot to "prune your roots" or whatever duplicitous tricks they are utilizing NOW to sell them. And in a 3-gallon plastic grow container I pulled down one plant that weighed 223 grams which is the largest indoor plant I've grown yet, but...I can usually average 3-4 ounces a plant. Which is respectable. Just a month or so ago I pulled down a plant that weighed 140 grams which is 5 ounces. I dont weigh them all individually but I do occasionally to get an idea. You have to be (and this goes for everyone doing this as a new hobby) In the 25 years I've been growing, I have never seen a bigger glut of shit being marketed with more dubious bullshit claims. Everybody wants your money from the seed sellers to the people at Leafy, and they will tell you (insert random product here ) is the most advanced whatever and it's very popular, and if you just purchase (insert random product here) you will almost effortlessly grow the biggest hardest best shit on the block. And these people are PROFESSIONAL sales people they DONT grow pot they sell equipment to suckers. Here's the secret, because I'm a little pissed and I want people to Never buy weed from a legal shop, because the same people who are the venture capitalists with the money behind the bud tender and all of hippies that are the face of the business are the same people that made money jailing people for pot. Trust me the marijuana you can grow yourself in a tent or closet will be just as good if not better than the profiteers who invaded the industry and want YOUR money. Now, the secret, find someone in the real world who wants make nothing of you pick their brain. Do ALOT of research a semester or even two would be better. But the people with normal cognitive ability and a GOID work ethic are going to be smoking killer pot for a dollar or two a gram. Maybe even 4 but they won't get ripped off on shitty equipment because they were warned, by me, that the in marijuana industry you are chum swimming with sharks. Watch out for counterfeit seeds or clones with spider mites or powdery mildew. Know I mean really know what I just told you for free, and you'll win against that "cool dude" who wants to sell you this or sell you that. He's a crook. Good luck!

Very good lecture, I would like to see one on a totally organic grow. I know the plants don't care where their nutrition comes from but I don't like to feed every day and I am experimenting with a mix of peat, perlite, lime, 2 kinds of compost and chicken manure. I have always used a regular fertilizer but this year wanted to try something different and maybe less work intensive. I hope that it comes out ok it is only an experiment but it still sucks if something doesn't work like you expect. I hope that it works out ok or at least hope that I can correct any issues should they arise. Great video and so much great information.

Peat is a bit acidic for most plants - I always use it but always amend it with some ashes to bring the PH into neutral range. Other things most people avoid but probably shouldn't include clay and sand. Clay does a wonderful job of retaining moisture during dry spells for outdoor plantings especially. Sand (washed sand) is also excellent for keeping the soil from clumping and becoming waterlogged and ensures good drainage and aeration of the roots. My favorite amendment is worm castings. These will have baby worm eggs in them so your soil will quickly develop it's own worms and their worm poop is the best nutrient ever invented. So the final amendment is kitchen waste compost - everything from banana peels to old fridge leftovers all go into the compost and the worms love compost mixed in (their favorite food).

I do half slow release nutes, half water nutes in my coco/perlite mix. I enjoy growing in peat, but coco has given me the best results. The water does not retain very well, you have to water a lot, but in a fabric pot, it’s actually a good thing. The more you can water, the more the plant can eat. Keeping your EC and PH right by checking twice a week, will tell you everything that you need to know.

Thanks for always dropping knowledge! I was wondering if Dr. Bugbee could do a lesson on clone propagation. To show us environment and proper techniques. To bust myths or confirm 45°angles make a difference or if a node is required at the end etc.

The reason for 45 degree angles is just to increase the surface area for root growth. It isn't necessary but can help. Cutting at or just under a node can help because there are more auxins at these areas of the plant, but the propagation method you use will determine how much this has an impact overall.

hey doc i've been growing since 1985 and i've kept up with this....if you are watering with nutrients and using your media, what are you pH'ing the nutrients to? i've generally keep mine at 6.19 to 6.23 before i feed my plants and i use a media close to what yours is...Also one more question, When measuring the DLI i get 63 at my center of canopy but i measure like mid 30s on the outer corners of canopy is that normal....ty for the info///shit i wished i met u in the 80s growing i would have done much better than school of hard knocks......lol

In college we did growing medium and fertilizer experiments on corn, with diff. combinations of peat, perlite, and vermiculite. The one with all three ingredients did the best by far, so I'm wondering why you don't add the third in there? I think it was like 10-20% better growth! I think the ratio was 1 1 1 but not entirely sure

I've seen in a few other videos some people (Harley Smith being one of them) saying that you can put your plants to sleep by going all red light for 15 minutes at the end of your daily light cycle. I suppose it would be imitating sunset but I wanted to ask if you had any thoughts on this or if you and your team had looked into maximizing sleep cycles? It would seem like getting your plant into it's sleep cycle and shutting down photosynthesis quickly at the end of day would allow the plant to switch over to consuming the excess nutrients from the day to grow the plant. If all those nutrients are used up, could you wake up the plant with the same flash of red showing sunrise?

You went into different light spectrums briefly but I wanted to ask about a bit more detail on your white +red recommend. I want to understand what the extra red is doing and what benefits you've seen from doing so.

These are great videos and it's awesome to see cannabis research going on at my alma mater. Please keep them coming I would love to keep up with your progress and learn more about this fascinating subject.

Hello, how are you, well, first of all, thanks for the video, it is very well explained, well developed, in addition to basically explaining everything necessary to have optimal conditions for a crop. I only have one question, when it refers to the preparation of the substrate in which it recommends using 50% peat and 50% vermiculite (in addition to the other aggregates; calcium magensium and others) it refers to literally only using peat and vermiculite without land in between? Or would it be peat soil and vermiculite?

ideal light: 1500 μmol
ideal temp: 25-30º celsius
ideal humidity: 40-60%
ideal ventilation: active extraction and intraction, and inside ventilation that moves leafs slightly. this will also positively affect co2.
ideal soil: 50% peat, 50% vermiculite, dolomitic lime (1,41g per lt. of soil), gypsum (0,35g per lt)
ideal fertilizer: npk 20-10-20 (0,6g per lt of water), ecc: 1-1,5ms.
ideal watering: slightly overwater (until 10% of water comes out from the bottom of the pot, which should have a tray below). always water with fertilizer. ecc of tray water should remain between 1 and 1,5ms

Hello Dr BUGBEE : If you may answer my question it would be of great help to reproduce your soil. In France we use the "VN" factor as you use "ENP" factor to calculate the added volume of dolomitic lime. Can you tell us please what is the ENP value of your dolomitic lime and its grain size roughly. Thanks in advance we are big big fans !

Do you study the manipulation of plant growth through cutting the main stem to multiply the main stems? There is the use of nets to space out the plant colas. Also what about low stress training and how does pruning the plant effect growth and yield? Do you study the decarboxylation? Wow, I loved this lesson and the teacher is awsome.
