Bugo is one of the most interesting and controversial artists to emerge fro… Read Full Bio ↴Bugo is one of the most interesting and controversial artists to emerge from the Italian independent scene in the 1990s, loved by his fans and by some critics but equally despised and judged as just a comedy act by others.
Born in the outskirts of Novara in 1973, Cristian "Bugo" Bugatti started his music career as a drummer in a punk band. In 1999 one of his demo tapes reached the ears of Bruno Dorella, musician and head of the small Italian label Bar la Muerte, which soon released the vinyl-only single "Questione di Eternità." A split EP with Italian outfit R.U.N.I. (La Pianta Movente) and a CD-R on Loretta Records (Pane, Pene, Pan) soon followed, paving the way for Bugo's first album, La Prima Gratta, co-produced in 2000 by Bar la Muerte and Snowdonia. A collection of lo-fi and largely acoustic numbers, it showcased a talented singer/songwriter with a very personal sense of humor and a strong ability to describe the world with irony and depth. Sophomore release Sentimento Westernato -- issued by Bar la Muerte together with Beware! and Wallace Records in 2001 -- was a slightly more focused affair, and is considered by many to be a more accomplished effort.
In 2002 Bugo recorded his third record, Dal Lofai al Cisei, with Italy's own Steve Albini, Fabio Magistrali -- and then, just before its release, signed with Universal, a decision that started a strong buzz around him, and at the same time caused some disappointment in his most radical fans. In any case, the album turned out to be a small success, thanks at least in part to the radio-friendly single "Casalingo." Released in 2004, Golia e Melchiorre was a double-CD set comprised of two different albums: the electronic-oriented Arriva Golia!, produced by Roberto Vernetti, and La Gioia di Melchiorre, a more acoustic and intimate affair. For 2006's Sguardo Contemporaneo, Bugo worked with C.S.I. and PGR guitarist Giorgio Canali as a producer, and the result was a record with stronger rock influences. A collaboration with electronic mastermind Stefano Fontana (aka Stylophonic) led to the recording of 2008's Contatti, once again released by Universal.

Overall Meaning

I practiced and studied Shotokan. Sensei Hitoshi Akiyama, 7th Dan. 3 years in Japan. 1975 to 1978. This movie came out while I was still living in Japsn. I never heard of this movie until recently.

@Johnny Harper Scouts Table Sensei Hitoshi Akiyama was an amazing man. He was 55 years old when I first started training under him in 1975. I was 20 years old. He was unusually tall for a Japanese. He was slightly taller than my 6ft 3 inches. He essentially did it for free. We paid 5 dollars a month to the Marine Corps Base Special Services club. Sensei Akiyama owned the company that manufactured the braking system of the Bullet Trains. After I made brown belt, I had to spar with him sometimes. That was always nerve wracking. His fists were huge. He was strict and hard, but he almost always had a smile. Whenever one of us had to spar with him, he would be smoking a cigarette and he was fast. Sometimes, he would challenge any of us to punch him as hard as we could in the stomach and he would laugh at our bewilderment. He would sit in the Lotus position and walk around on the floor on his knees. He was the 4th man from the top of the hierarchy of all of the JKA (Japanese Karate Association) Shotokan.

The nunchucks actually originated from China and were called "Shuang Jie Gun" which means "2 section staff" this weapon was developed around the Song Dynasty. It was an offshoot of the "San Jie Gun" (3 section staff)

@@Jiyukan Nope. That's total hogwash. If you paid any attention at all to my last comment you would've learned something! It was never a farming tool to begin with! As some who trains in Chinese martial arts & weapons - I'm also very well-versed in their history. The "nunchucks" were actually a weapon developed around the Song Dynasty in China and was once known as "Shuang Jie Gun" meaning "two section staff" it was commonly used by traveling merchants protecting their expensive goods from bandits & ruffians.

What's even more interesting is that it was developed from an older weapon model called "San Jie Gun" also known as "3 section staff" which was also a very popular weapon from the Song Dynasty as well. The Shuang Jie Gun or "2 section staff" was developed out of necessity to make an easier to carry & concealable weapon which was portable and could be used at a moments notice.

Much later when karate was developed by pioneers from the Ryukyu kingdom (which had very close ties to China and was occupied by the Japanese and renamed Okinawa) - the weapon was adopted into their practice. Most of what the Chinese culture developed, was borrowed by the Japanese & Okinawans. From architecture, calligraphy, philosophy & alchemy to martial arts - the roots have always been Chinese, and that's never going to change no matter how much you try to rewrite history.

Well in the 1700s there was a great war between the samurai and a forest of bamboo that would not pay its respects to the daimyo of the land and so the had to cut them all down

the war was long and brutal and as fate would have it the bamboo won as it continues to mock the samurai with how widespread it grows
