Shiloh
Buju Banton Lyrics

Strange, this feeling I'm feeling
But Jah love we will always believe in
I know you may think my faith is in vain
Til Shiloh we'll chant Rastafari's name

Overall Meaning

The first line of Buju Banton's "Shiloh" speaks to a paradoxical feeling that cannot be easily expressed. It is a feeling of both wonder and apprehension, an emotion that is a product of a deep faith in Jah, or God, that can only be experienced by those who truly believe. However, despite any doubts and questions that may arise, Jah's love will forever be the foundation of their beliefs. The lyrics indicate that the faith in Jah may not be easily understood by others and may be misjudged or ridiculed, but the Rastafarian community will continue to chant and regard Him with reverence until the second coming of Christ, whom they refer to as Shiloh.

The use of the Hebrew word "Shiloh" in the title of the song indicates that it is a reference to the messianic prophecy found in the Bible's Old Testament. According to this prophecy, "the scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet until Shiloh come, and unto him shall the gathering of the people be" (Genesis 49:10). This proclamation was later interpreted by Rastafarians as a prophecy of the second coming of Christ, whose arrival is expected to mark the end of oppression and the beginning of a new era of freedom and justice.
