Emanuel
Bukas Palad Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

isang dalaga'y maglilihi
batang lalaki ang sanggol
tatawagin syang emmanuel

isang dalagay maglilihi batang lalaki ang sanggol
tatawagin syang emmanuel

magalak isinilang ang poon
sa sabsaban syay nagpahinga
nagpahayag ang mga anghel
luwalhati sa dyos

isang dalagay maglilihi
batang lalaki ang sanggol
tatawagin syang emmanuel

Overall Meaning

The song "Emanuel" by Bukas Palad tells the story of the birth of Jesus Christ. The first stanza talks about a young woman who will give birth to a baby boy, and they will call him Emmanuel. This is a reference to the prophecy in Isaiah 7:14, which says, "Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel." The word "Emmanuel" means "God with us," which is a significant message of hope and salvation for the world.

The second stanza describes the actual birth of Jesus in a manger, where he is laid to rest. This is a humble and lowly setting for the King of Kings, but it emphasizes Jesus' humanity and his willingness to be born into the world as a helpless baby. The angels sing praises to God, declaring his glory and giving thanks for the gift of Jesus. Overall, the lyrics of the song convey a sense of awe and wonder at the miraculous event of Christ's birth, and an understanding of the profound theological implications of his coming.

I've always love this song and while I was pregnant with my first born it has become my lullaby every night while singing along for the baby who was still in my tummy.. and so I end up naming my son Emmanuel.. Being pregnant while in the middle of pandemic was not easy but it gave us hope and it also reminded us that God is really with us.. Our Emmanuel was born last November 28, 2021 and now I sing this song to him as a lullaby.. 🥰
