Noong Paskong Una
Bukas Palad Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Noong Paskong una, si Mariang Ina
Sanggol niyang kay ganda, 'pinaghele sa kanta
Awit niya'y kay rikit. Anghel doon sa langit
Sa tamis naakit, sumamang umawit

KORO:

Aleluya! Aleluya!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Noong Paskong Una" by Bukas Palad paint a vivid picture of the joy and wonder of the first Christmas. The song starts by introducing Mariang Ina, who sings a beautiful lullaby to her baby, who is as beautiful as an angel in the sky. Her song is so enchanting that it attracts the attention of the angels themselves, who join in singing.

The chorus celebrates the arrival of Christmas, urging everyone to join in and sing along with the song of Mariang Ina and the beautiful Child. It is a joyful invitation to embrace the spirit of the season.

The next verse expands the scene, with even the stars, the wind’s breeze, and the entire universe joining in Mariang Ina's song. The sky itself and nature itself are inspired to sing along, showcasing the song's profound impact and the unity it brings.

The final verse introduces the shepherds and the animals in the manger. Even though the shepherds are sleepy, they cannot resist joining in the song. This emphasizes that the power of Mariang Ina's song brings people and even animals together, cutting across barriers and inspiring participation from all.

The exclamation of "Aleluya! Aleluya!" at the end signifies a joyful celebration of the birth of the Child and the joy that Christmas brings.

Another one of my favorite liturgical Christmas songs from Bukas Palad. It narrates what happened more than 2000 years ago, when the Divine Savior of the world was born in our mortal flesh, in the presence of humility: humble stable, humble yet blessed parents (Virgin Mary & St. Joseph), humble manger, and among the humblest of animals. And such humility was praised by the song of angels & was honored by the shining of the Star, that led the Wise Men to the King that they offered gifts and adored.
